I don't remember if posted in here or not, but I was dead set against it. There's no point in going without a date.

My parents tried every tactic in the book to get me to go. One day I got fed up and said to my dad, "why do you want to spend 300 dollars to rent a tux for me to stand around at some church all night?" He thought about it for a couple seconds and then said "good point."

So I got to stay home that day and play Street Fighter.

Never went for several reasons. No one to go with, I don't like dancing, and I simply didn't want to go. Not sure what it is - maybe combination of Asperger's and social anxiety - but just not something I wanted to go to.

I did, 3 times (these 3 being Grade 9 to 11, I never got to the grade 12 prom since I switched schools), since my HS had Proms for all 4 levels together (as in as one school).

I went to three different high schools. Missed junior prom because my mom moved a week before prom. Never went to senior prom. High school was torture.

In my school, it would have been very unusual to not go to the prom. There were, of course, a number of us without dates.

" Going there all alone would tell everyone that I was a social loser, not to mention the fact that with the social anxiety I had back then, it would have been a nightmare"

Says it better than I could. In my country they don't call it (them??) "proms" but same thing. Didn't go. I'd have only got falling-down drunk anyway.

I didn't go to my junior prom because I knew there wasn't anyone who'd accept if I asked, so I didn't try. The next year a friend asked me if I would ask out her friend to prom ,but I declined. I didn't have a lot of money, and couldn't afford to take her out on a proper date with a nice dinner and a limo and all that, so I didn't ask. Part of me sees what a fool I was, but part of me doesn't regret it either, because I think it would've been an embarrassing night for me and for her. She could've done better than me.

I went to my senior prom with my girlfriend and then a couple years later to my new girlfriend's senior prom. Neither of them were by choice and both of them were a waste of time and money, IMO.

I didn't go, and neither did my girlfriend.

I went both years without a date and had a really good time. :)
At my high school only 11th and 12th graders could go to prom, the only way younger people could go is if they got special permission to be someones prom date.
My 11th grade prom was lots of fun; the location was very pretty, I danced a couple of times, and the after party was held at a huge arcade/ lazer tag/ go cart place! :P Senior prom was nice, but not as much fun. The location was smaller, and I got hit on by a sleazy moron (while his date was at another table :x ), but the food was good and I even danced in a conga line. :)
The only regret I had about it was that I didn't ask the guy I wanted to be my date; I was a couple of years older than him and I was too nervous to ask.

I did not, mostly for the same reason you just stated. However I also have never seen the real need to go to the event, and I often saw it as over-rated.

Furthermore, I had only been in the city where I went to high school since freshman year and because I was (still am) socially secluded, no-one truly got to know me in that time. Except possibly 2-3 people, all of which were taken.

Went because a friend asked me too, the prom itself wasn't that great honestly. The food was alright, but the music was just loud and awful (pop I think). Some friends and I spent the last half hour outside -we had ridden together with some other people and one of the group didn't want to go home until the very end. Not the best thing ever.
