To throw in my $0.02 on who's keeping gender roles around, I have seen a few guys do this. One in particular had a big provider complex and got an English degree...the results weren't pretty. He wouldn't even ask girls out unless he knew he could pay for a date he thought was good enough, which was rare indeed.

I would also dispute about fates being sealed. We are only a few decades away from being able to fully redesign people, and much closer to useful imitations. Traditional ideas - like needing to pair one compatible man and one compatible woman - are on the way out.

I know this feeling but I never done anything,mostly because its illegal,I have no money,I wouldn't know where to look and I really have this thing about not wanting to catch an STD nor find out the person I am sleeping with is a victim of human trafficking. On the topic of gender roles,screw them.

I often find that a lot people hold them up for their own gender and the opposite often subconsciously.I imagine a lot this stuff would have died out if we stopped subconsciously be make these traits desirable in our mates.For example just look at what's happened to our standard of beauty which for women as changed constantly while as men's its largely unchanged,I can't think of a single culture or point in time where a overweight man has been considered desirable its either been treated with disdain or just a personification of the concept of prosperity where as when you look at the standard for women what was in a long time ago to even just 30 years ago would be considered "Plus Size" nowdays. As far desirable body type it goes like this

Women:The Malnourished look
Men:Adonis
neither of which is fair to the average person.Another thing is we are both judged on our worth and desirability on two entirely different scales

For Men its based on what we produce which for lot of men leads to pretty soul crushing existence
For Women its mostly based on looks,reproduction,and domesticity which is also BS
in other word their both really terrible ways to value a person.
