I'm 26 now, pretty old for where I'm at on paper but I can get a lot of work done. I need to go skiing & just generally exercise more but I'm not terribly out of shape,I just live in a cube full of PCs & do the same thing at home.

I'm more just avoiding the effort of taking a good selfie by the way.

If I recall, you posted a selfie before because you said you were a lookalike of someone. I didn't think so, but I thought you were cute. It's the uncertainty that pushes people away, I'm pretty sure. Think of people as mirrors. They mirror your feelings and attitudes right back.

it is infuriating that so many people assume that just because a person doesn't behave as the crowd behaves, that they MUST want to be alone forever.

I'm not really mad, it's more that I don't understand why people think decades upon decades of work is survivable without more support than this.

It's driving me nuts but I'm not interested in getting angry over this nonsense.

There's a culture that dehumanises the geeks (and especially if they LOOK 'geeks') ; and it's everywhere in the media.

For example there's a stereotype about me at work that I so rarely take days off (and it's true for the other techies); the HR girl and some others always joke about how I've accumulated over 40 unused days off.

They don't get that it's not something I want but simply I CAN'T - one day off means extra time work in the other day to finish the task at hand. Looking at my sheet, I've only used 7 days out of 15 last year; I bet this gives a negative impression that I have no time for fun.

I'm not even sure I want to stay in this country. The United States is pure hell for me these days.

Everyone who used to care about me forgot about the whole culture I live in.

I only have capability, that's pretty much my only asset. I get called a living swiss army knife, but that's not much of a romantic ideal.

I need to take some of today off. Beer & tacos for lunch...

I guess I'll be back with a picture eventually even though I have little to no fashion sense. More than I'm looking for critiques of my looks, I'm looking for reasons to actually try at all. I don't know what women want from my type. I only know I'm not exactly doing much about that today.

I think that women your age are not going to appreciate the kind of person you are. I can't back that up with anything specific, it is just a gut feeling. Look for women at least a decade older. (Or not.) :D

If I'm honest I wasn't thinking about looking for anyone at this point & that's what my thread is about.

I was aware of the expressed disinterest though. I also don't think that has much to do with age. :(

More than anything I just want to be at peace with where I am & see more of my friends before I jump into relationships in any way.

I'm spending way too much time alone in general.

You're still quite young!

Mind you, at your age you are in the position that I was. It was as if most of the young ladies wanted the tough guys or the experienced guys... But then when one gets in ones late 30's to 40's, those ladies have been there and down that and mde their mistakes, and want to settle down with a nice sensiblw man. Is like they have learnt the lessons from their youth and want to make ammends... And sensible guys then start to be in high demand as there are so few singlw ones available.
But the inbetween stage is the difficult stage. I was 35 before I had my first girlfriend. Prior to this I was usually told I was too nice or too sensible... Usual stuff. Young girls just wanted the tough guys with bad reputations. (Boy did many of them later wish they hadn't! Haha!).
What I will say is to keep your eyes open andnot give up hope, but don't worry too much if you don't find a girl. The older you are, the more of a good catch you will get to be, and the more you will be in demand!

It's not as if people aren't demanding that I work nonstop until then. :(

I'm simply trying not to be a stranger to everyone who ever got close to me meanwhile.

I wish I was half as talented and intelligent as cberg.
