I feel sorry for the guys that fall for this crap.

I guess you are right. The big question that remains is why especially women are as much into watching that crap. Many rom-coms are as oily and fatty as Disney movies and it's really hard to get rid of the stains in the carpet under that TV afterwards. Is that part of that masochism that some women are into? Is their pain the reason why some of them are even in tears afterwards? I know that a bit of pain can be a turnon for some women ...

Most likely because they fantasize to receive such romantic gestures from a hot guy they like, like the actor they're watching, and not by someone plain like you or me. lol

When there's a ticking nuke or some ticking apocalyptic event that gonna blow in few minutes, and the girl pauses him to kiss the protagonist for like ....minutes before letting him go to save the day, as if there's no pressing matter threatening people/earth/universe.

Yes, I have friends who are obsessed with certain actors.

It's a fantasy, not something they want the bloke next door to do.

Yeah, Christian Gray would be a super creep and a borderline rapist if he was a next door guy.

But he's hot and rich, so that makes his toxic behavior ...ok? :chin: :|

I hate that book so much. To be fair, I've never actually read it, however, I read a blog by a mental health specialist who broke down how bad his behaviour was chapter by chapter and it was not good.

She got such a backlash from fans and was threatened with doxxing, so had to take the blog down.

(whoops, failed to notice which sub-forum this was in.)

On the Grand Romantic Gestures: when the guy responds to being turned down hard by staging a very public GRG and she responds by softening slightly instead of taking out a frickin' restraining order.

Tell a lie- it does occasionally work in real life. Which is not a good thing. Not long ago I read about a woman who was murdered by her husband, an obsessive stalker who had "love-bombed" his way into her life past sucessive rejections by sending her stuff like 100 red roses until she finally gave in and said yes.

I'm also a bit baffled that so many regard Heathcliffe from "Wuthering Heights" as a great romantic hero. Guy's a psychopath. A psychopath with a sob story, but still a psychopath.

Can't disagree.

"Hot" people get away with more sh_t than us average/ugly folks.

I just feel bad for the guys that get roped in to thinking that stuff is acceptable.

I guess most girls would be annoyed if an idiot who is after them tries to impress them a very strange way. But girls who are after a guy can behave very strange as well. And they may become very sad and pissed off if their crush ignores them. Can become a problem for guys on the spectrum.

Times have changed.
"Grand romantic gestures" used to be seen as benign, 40 years ago, based on my experience, but society has now turned to crap, here in Australia, due to drug syndicates.

We used to be 20 years behind America.
I don't think that is the case these days. 8)

So exactly is it the fault of drug syndicates that over-the-top romantic gestures aren't as widely accepted as you claim they once were?

I heard in Alabama, a father and son shot each other over a dog. Both men died.

While this really happened, it seems somewhat rare in the real world. Usually, when there's a shooting, one person may die, the second usually doesn't.

But it seems to happen in movies more often.

Shy guy collides with shy girl, making her drop a stack of books. Result: love at first sight!

IRL, even while he's helpfully picking them up, she's thinking "****ing clumsy ***hole. ****, the cover's bent!"

May be I should try that.

Oh, you~
I will take you to my mansion all passed out and play tic tac toe on your nice behind with my covid bat sidekick.
I will then drop sparkly powder over it and bite yoh

Damn. Sounds super hot to watch but it seems that I need something that helps me to save my ass from that. 8O
Despite I'm a carnivore I could require some beans beside of that garlic to blow away all magic powder in such cases ... but of course that could cause your bat to drop from the ceiling and becoming awfully hurt and fearing for its life. :?
I need to find a more pet friendly plan right now like dipping my ass into holy water or using mosquito spray on it ...

Don't be afraid, it might sting but vampires are immune to covid, being part bats. It will be just like an injection, your vaccine.

Then you will stay in lockdown tightly in chains until it has its effect while Im making potions for taming the new beast in you [and for trapping you loyally to your queen, mwehehe!] and have you drink a lot of liquids from wine glasses.

I know you want to climb up the magical beanstalk into the clouds [the stairway to heaven], but rest assured you can have all my golden eggs and I will let you play my big golden harp.
Fee-fi-fo-fum!
I smell the blood of a German man.
Be he alive, or be he dead,
I'll grind his bones to make my bread~
