I realise than now, but I'm enjoying reading everyone's different interpretations and thoughts.

I feel like that's half the fun when asking questions about ambiguously defined social concepts, when you leave the question more open-ended people also end up answering how they define status (or whatever the concept might be).

Indian and Pakistani groups seem to be more drawn to the Manchester area of the UK. I think it was a large industrial area in the past and a good place to find work. My white friend felt like she stuck out like a sore thumb in that area.

I had a Pakistani friend in high school, but there were very few Indians. I know a woman who married an Indian man in the 70s in my home town, but I think his family were the only Indian one there.

Even in the city I live in the biggest influx of people seems to from China. We have a Hindu temple and some Mosques, but I don't see many Indians out and about, even in my diverse workplace. We seem to have a lot of Europeans, but not a lot of other cultures.

I guess this is social science. It doesn't use the same kind of evidence as physics or chemistry but it's still a a science and it still uses evidence.

I find it amusing when people judge another and determine if that person is "successful" or not.
Successful according to what criteria. Happy? Independent? Enjoy solitude? Enjoy a large family and wide social circle? Important sounding job title? Drive the latest model prestige car?

No doubt a person's status varies depending on whose eyes it is viewed through, just like being successful.

Similar goals are important. Different outlooks can meet in the middle sometimes. It depends how involved and wedded to your lifestyle you already are. Farming is a huge thing.

Ya Like i just came back from our ranch and I would move full-time to live on a ranch if I could....maybe someday.But someone from Manhattan would be a fish out of water there where I want to live.Like city folk and country folk have always been very different from each other.Where I live is more likely to marry into a billionaire celebrity family whether it be state or national level but I would not do it if I didnt like the person.But here celebrities are more likely to be compatible with me so it would make it more likely because in LA or Chicago it would be like zero possibiltiy.However I would choose to partner with someone in the oilfield just for status in business but I would have to trust the person because you have to do that in the oilfield.

Status or lack thereof is completely irrelevant to me when it comes to relationships. I'm very used to people thinking of me as a giant loser including my peers & family so I judge myself & my partner by my own standards. I would not give one flying f#ck about how anyone feels about my partner bad or good. When I was single, I was ecstatic that someone was interested in me & I woulda married most anyone the 1st chance I got even if we barely knew each other. I would grow to love her as I'd learn about her.
