I noticed that Final Fantasy gets as lot of love here, with the mentions and the avatars I've seen. I don't blame you. I love it too, even though I haven't beaten a lot of them (I started playing video games later than everyone else because growing up, my parents were convinced that gaming consoles were satan). My boyfriend was the one who got me into the games. I've beaten VII and VIII (and of course saw Advent Children-- I hear they're adding on more to the movie and re-releasing it!!), I'm almost done with III (at the very end), most-way through Crisis Core (I'm in Nibelheim now), never got past training in Dirge of Cerberus ( my coordination is horrible for that kind of action gaming stuff! Thankfully my boyfriend beat the game himself and unlocked all the movies for us to watch), and I'm part-way through X.

My name is Anna, I'm 24, was diagnosed with AS at 17 after being I was slapped with the ADHD label and put on medication when I was 10, but it wasn't helping me socially, and nothing really helped until I got social skills training when I was 17-18.

I have a love for music, and pretty much eat sleep and breathe my love for it. I love things that make me think, and I like it when something inspires my creativity.

I'm conflicted on what else to say without turning this thing into a term paper. I want to write a book because my life has always been a confusing one with crazy twists and turns.

But foremost, I love crafting songs.

My name is Darren. I am a 44 year old single male living with the cows out in western New York State of USA. For some strange reason I am obsessed with shopping carts and the way things work. I was just recently diagnosed with AS although I always had it as a kid (super large emotional meltdowns and not looking people in the eye sorta stuff). I am tall with brown hair. I love the films of the Coen brothers and Spike Jonze. My fav bands are the Killers, Green Day, Ramones, Velvet Underground etc....follow the pattern.

Great reads are To Kill a Mockingbird, In Cold Blood, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, The Accidental Tourist (was Macon Leary an aspie?) to name a few. Must have record is the first Ramones...a true classic.

I have adapted well to social situations which were awkward thru sheer determination. I still can't always look people in the eye, have trouble understanding people (especially the opposite sex) and tend to prefer my own company by isolating way too much. I am jealous of people who navigate the social world far better than I do and am envious of their relationships.

There's not much around here but farmland and great scenery. I went to university and somehow managed to get a degree in history. How did I do that?!

Oh, I was born in San Francisco, but didn't stay too long (wish we had). I also have been blessed with obsessive compulsive disorder. There's a tendency for my to obsess about my AS diagnosis as it took so long to get I am afraid it will be taken away from me (major nightmare scenario). Snap out of it, Darren!

Here in Wrongplaet I am hoping to converse with people, make friends, get help and ideas, and who knows....?

That's about it, Darren in a nutshell.

Hello! I'm Sarah, a 16 year old New Yorker. I was not diagnosed with AS until May this year. I was definately different from everyone else but like many other kids with AS (this is from the doctor that diagnosed me) I was written off as lazy, unmotivated and, as for the social wierdness, antisocial.
My past obsessions include the ocean, particularly whales, and several other things I can't remember. I don't really obsess over anything anymore, but I love theater, music, singing, reading, photography and videogames. I am a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan, even though I live in Western New York. My favorite videogame is the Legend of Zelda series. I've beat the Wind Waker and I am working on Twilight Princess(for Wii) and the Ocanaria of Time.
I do a lot of reading, fantasy and fiction mostly, and I love writing fan fictions.
I came here to find other people like me, trying to make their way in this crazy world, even if it doesn't accept us as we are.

I am Josh, I am 14.

I have always been obsessed with technology and cars, these days I like DeLoreans and Macs. Today I found out about lucid dreaming which seems really cool!! !

I am trying to save up for a DeLorean so in 4 years I can buy one for my first car! Also, I am learning all I can about mechanics so I can take care of it.

I spend most of my time on forums, listening to music and watching TV. My mum thinks I should get a social life etc. I think not.

I came here to talk to other people with Asperger's Syndrome as I only know one other Aspie ATM.

I hope to have a lot of fun here! :)

Update to my previous post:

I still want to move to Wellington.

I want to work with Autism NZ when I am in Wellington. Even as an Unpaid Volunteer on welfare, if necessary.

I started a single paper relating to a Diploma on Counseling, my goal was to become a counselor for aspies. But I failed the paper. still learn't heaps from it though!

I am either an "Agnostic who believes in God", or a "Theistic Mystic", I am undecided. Basically I am convinced God exists but do not define "God" in any way, especially in terms of an established religion or organised spirituality.

I forgot to mention previously, I also play "Rise of Nations" alongside the games "IL-2 Sturmovik" and "Silent Hunter 3". I also have "Half Life 2" and "Portal", but cannot install them as I have no internet connection at home.

Love-wise I am interested in casual fun more than a formal relationship at the moment. This is because I didn't get to fool-around in my adolescence like my friends and schoolmates did (and I wanted to too). I want to have some "play & pleasure" for a while before settling into a long-term situation!

I'm Ben. I was not diagnosed with Asperger's until adulthood. I have improved socially since graduating from high school. I guess that came with having a clean slate, so to speak. I have struggled in the areas of initiating basci social interaction, understanding non-verbal cues, and empathy. I have gotten a lot better in those areas. One thing I still struggle with is how to process mixed messages. This was the case when I was taken out of student teaching. Certain issues came up completely out of the blue. I had no warning of being in an immediated make-or-break situation. Now, my immediate future is in limbo.

Hi, first post.

I just joined Wrong Planet today after reading a bit about AS. I have to say, I definitely don't want to self-diagnose after reading a few articles on it, but I felt like I was reading an account of my childhood and early adulthood. I'm 30 years old and while I've developed a fairly convincing veneer of being "normal", I still become awkward and twitchy when I try to be even the least bit earnest.

Also, I'm a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. It's nice to meet all of you, and I hope to learn a bit more about who I am, even if I'm not an "Aspie" like you.

Hallo ... 'long time reader, 2nd-time poster' (I joined because I could not control the urge to respond to another thread, so I kind of did that first ... poor netiquette, I know, but I guess worse things have happened).

My name's Asher. I was diagnosed with AS in 2nd grade. I've spent much of my life developing a fairly complex set of compensations, and I function pretty well, though I still find it very difficult to make friends and have some difficulty understanding how other people operate within the context of friendship.

I'm currently pondering whether there's a correlation between AS and cross-dominance -- I noticed that an earlier poster mentioned being cross-dominant, as I am (I write with either hand, but can only bowl left-handed, for one, LOL).

Like a high percentage of the other Aspies I've known, I love computers and am fairly geeky in the standard sense (I enjoy fantasy, sci-fi, tabletop RPGs, manga, anime, and the like). I'm also into martial arts, horses, dogs, and language.

Perhaps oddly, I find that not being 'language-native' (I don't think in words), while a disadvantage in the field of communication, is an advantage in the field of new language acquisition -- since I'm not locked into a set of words and grammar for thinking, new languages are kind of plug-and-play for me. Sadly, though, that doesn't mean I'm any better at communicating than I already was -- I just have more options for miscommunication :)

Anyway, I think that's an adequate introduction. I'm glad I stumbled across this site.

Thanks,
Asher

Welcome, Asher, and don't worry: I think all of us have done that. :)

Interesting. Never thought about it till now, but I'm right-handed for everything except dealing cards.

Hello Mr. "Welcome To WP"!
:P

I like to stick to routine answers also.
I'm horribly childish and goofy.
And eccentric. I'm not trying.
In case anyone wonders why I picked that Avatar:
I'm Supergirl at night-time* and a nerdy girl (Supergirl in disguise) in the daytime.
I have recurring dreams of returning to the Fortress of Solitude.

(*This is not a sexual innuendo, I just work in nightshifts, usually.)
