That documentary above reminded me a bit of this old Monty Python skit.

Well done!

Plus, with a student, you don't have to deal with her parents. And, she hasn't been here long enough to become Americanized.

Did you kiss her yet? Or, is that getting too personal?

I found the lyrics to the Pattaya Pattaya song

http://pattayabargirls.wordpress.com/20 ... taya-song/

For the Thai words in the song

Quote:
Phuuying love you mak mak

Spoiler alert: You will learn, within a few days of arrival in the country, that "phuuying" means girl and "mak mak" means very much.

By the way, in keeping with the original topic, can you pray tell us how you managed to speak to her? What lines did you use? Or, what lines did she use, and how did you respond, in order to progress as far as you did? Can you summarize the dialogue, and give us the key lines?

When she first saw you, did she smile and say "You very handsome man", or was her approach more subtle?

So my friend met an Asian girl off OKCupid. My friend is in many ways, like me. Anyway, he's also kind of a loser, but with slightly more stuff going on in his life (he's studying to be an EMT) but no jobs, hasn't finished (community) college yet, etc. Has better social skills than me but is offset by being MORE awkward than me at times because he just won't care or will be bored.

Image
Is what my friendship is like.

Anyway, my friend is like "Dude I'm f****d, this girl makes $80,000 a year." He still lives with his mom and dad, but is 25. She graduated from Brown and works in some cool firm and drives a BMW or an Audi. She's also a red belt in taekwondo, and runs 4 miles everyday.

So if somehow my friend can find the answer to "How to get an Asian girl to like you/not hate you if you're broke and unsuccessful." I will be grateful. One thing he did was, when the girl asked about what he did, he made the girl talk more about herself. One tactic there.

I'm reading another kindle book about Thailand. This is Thailand: A story of love, sex, and betrayal in the tropics by Marek Lenarcik. It is his story about leaving the corporate world of Europe to become an English teacher in Thailand.

One of the things he points out is that, in Thailand, teachers have a very high social status--just lower than that of the Buddhist monks. Unlike America, where teachers often get very little respect, in Thailand, teachers receive a great deal of respect. I think that this is the case in much of Asia.

Your English does seem to be quite good--I'm sure that you could get teaching jobs there. Ideally, you might consider pursuing a degree in TESOL. You can get teaching jobs without a degree, but some preparation might be a good idea, and the degree would be necessary if you wanted to teach in universities, at least in some places.

Once my FAFSA money comes in, I'm getting certified in a few things. Personal training cert, TEFL cert, and possibly ASE automotive cert. With all those things no actual degree is required, just knowledge enough to pass the tests. Personal training for most of them, to be a high level, does need a bachelors, though. Those certs here and abroad would open doors.

I'd probably be most comfortable in Japan, considering I know enough Japanese to understand like 5-10% of whatever's going on in a conversation. I think I'd pick it up reasonably easy compared to other Asian languages. Also, Chinese, I tried taking a Chinese class and couldn't do it, as I couldn't sound out even the pinyin correctly. Too hard. It sucks when I go to the Asian market here and sound out the pinyin like an idiot and then the lady just has to move her hand around the shelf of products until she lands on the one I want.

It was simple really of course she was sort of a regular visitor at my work she flirted with me alot she does the newspaper route for the store and she asked me if I had a girlfriend and I said no and she asked how come? I said too busy and its a long story then I asked her if she has a boyfriend and she said no and then we exchanged phone numbers! She did say I am very handsome though! She wants to take me out for some Pho next week! Shes been texting me for the past few days whenever im not at work now. She does smile alot though and very cheery all the time!

Well, off to Japan you go, then.

But, just so you know: Thailand is a LOT of fun. Don't miss it.
