A pint of Guinness in a pub here is about £3.30.

Wouldn't mind a pint of Guinness FES now. It ain't cheap in the shops though - comes to about £3.10 a pint / £1.80 a bottle (equivalent) in bottled form from Booths. It used to be available for more like £2.30 a pint / £1.33 a bottle.

I love those beers too. As well as Imperial Stouts. Ever had some of those?

It's my birthday today, so that bottle of Nøgne Ø Dark Horizon 2. edition that I've had for 26 months might well be drunk today. Yum. :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! !!

i don't think i've ever tried imperial stout.

sorry to hear about the sex friendship thing not working out.

They're stouts but are extremely strong, complex, heavy versions of stouts. So they have many different flavours that mix and intertwine with one another that take considerable practice to oversee. Think of them as like a fine wine, or a good whisky, more than just a typical beer. Something to sip after a good meal with a cigar if you're an Evil Smoker™.

They tend to be jet black, thick, strong, and powerful. Generally they start at 8% ABV and go up from there. Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout is 7% and is one of the most moderate Imperial stouts.

You never glug an imperial stout because that's just wasting it. The flavours are so intense and multi-layered that it really takes time to detect them all.

They tend to look like this:

And I've actually had that particular imperial stout before once, though that isn't my photo.

I'm indulging in MOPEry at the moment as I seem to have distanced myself from reality. You know what it's like when you're out in public and you're entirely in your own head, barely looking at what's going on around you, so you barely make eye contact with people? Like that.

i will endeavour to try it, though my mind is quite focused on trying to find a Belgian sour beer.

MOPE is an Irish term meaning "Most Oppressed People Ever" - it refers to people in countries that have suffered conflict going on about how done by they are. Whingeing by any other name.

So we're all terribly hard done by aren't we? ;)

This Nøgne Ø is going down very well.

On to the pub after!

If you walked up to me on the street a couple years ago and randomly asked me if I'd consider having a friend with benefits, I'd either A) Get a restraining order or B) Start walking faster/running. If, however, I was feeling a little more, hmm, how can I put this delicately...............insane, I'd tell you that while it was a tempting idea, I'm not so sure it's something I'd go all in on. I'd say that sex was something special, something to be had between two people who love one another. Now, I'm not so sure. The way I see it now is more or less that as humans, we all require a little special attention, whether it's from a friend or partner.

Sex is more special between two people who have an intimate love for one another, sure, but I'm not so sure how it serves to necessarily demean the act when you do it with a friend for a more base reason; how it makes that almost spiritual high you get from doing it with somebody you love any less of one. Whether it's doing the deed with somebody you have a great deal of mutual respect for and some level of emotional attachment (Though not near enough to justify a full-blown relationship, but a love that nonetheless, doesn't make the act feel entirely awkward) and you both are acknowledging that you just need to get off, frankly, I don't see what the problem is (other than it doesn't fit one's palate). That has it's own utility and does not, in my view, diminish the sex that serves the end of bringing you closer to your partner. Sure, in either case, you're sticking your thingy in somebody's bodily orifice (or "accepting" said thingy in said orifice[s], not to get too graphic here.), but really, that's where the similarities end. Two people can both be on their cell phone doing the same exact same thing for different reasons; why can't two people be having sex for two entirely different reasons, each with their own degree of validity?

I had a sex friend or "friend with benefits" in college. We tried dating for a while but it didn't work so we fell into this routine of sexytime whenever we'd be in the mood. It worked for us. He lives too far away from my actual home to keep it working though. But if we ever run into each other again and neither of us are with somebody...it'll probably happen again.

Being a "friend with benefits" is not an option for most male Aspies, unless they happen to be exceptionally attractive in other ways.

Right now I would settle for a female friend who was willing to just hang out and talk.
