Seriously, are you really diagnosed aspies or you just doubt to have it?

What? you DON'T have to have an active social life to know what people in your town are like.
Yes. You. Do.

How about actually talking to people and get to know them rather than just blowing them off right off the bat and judging them at face value? It is usually people like you that don't put themselves out there that make up generalizations to fill the void from a lack of interactions.

lol what if it's the idiots that spend time in their homes and not go out? :P how would you go about getting to know them then?
I don't know kick in their doors, tell them to get out of their basements, and have a few drinks with them at their porch? lol

is that what you do in Cambodia? why am I not surprised

seriously though all towns and all mentalities are slightly different and not only are most people conformists (so they act like the herd they're in) but such areas also tend to attract similar crowds. if you're unlucky enough to be ill-suited to the mentality of the area you grew up in, and you're not willing/unable to conform, you're kinda screwed.

I for one am a serial immigrant so I think I know what I'm talking 'bout! :P
That's true to an extent but it's mostly because of people generalizing based on their limited experiences. You can't judge the entire population of a town/city based on some vibe you get from it. Even if you live in a village of 150 people, you've still gotta watch the generalizations since knowing 25 people from the village isn't indicative of the rest of the 125 people. And no I'm not from Cambodia, it's a reference to a joke from Friends lol.

What? I just doing that same stupid patronizing crap that you did.

No, you get an idea of how they are in public. Try talking to them one on one.

Why would anyone only act a certain way when they are out in public? If someone does do that, then I wouldn't want to be friends with them, who knows when they might decide to change how they act.

Sure there's some subcultural stuff they conform to but not every chick that wears TNA jeans or abercrombie is a stupid ditz or a gossipy drama queen. I knew a preppy chick who had an IQ of 140 and wasn't into petty BS. Besides we're talking about a whole town, not a few subcultures within a town.

You seem to be putting words in my mouth. I never said anyone who wears a certain type of clothing always conforms to a certain stereotype. It's how they wear them, how they walk, talk, etc, etc...

What the hell is a preppy chick exactly? and how do you spot them? It it just some girl who always seems to be happy? Plus IQ tests mean nothing.

Those were just two examples I used there is lots more. Yes a whole town and a small one too.

Ok have fun with that. You can be arrogant and generalize about your whole town based on your limited interactions, or you can wise up and realize seeing someone walk down the street doesn't count as knowing them well enough to accurately judge them.

Oh don't worry I am, It's very fun. Limited interactions, where are you getting this from? I would hardly call 21 years of living in a town and witnessing the types of people that live there as 'limited'.

Arrogant? yes. But it's hard not to be when you have to constantly put up with bullying and lots of other crap for most of your life.

yeah I wouldn't really suspect a true Cambodian of an Internet connection :P

what you say makes sense but it goes against my personal experience. some areas are just more varied when it comes to the different types or characteristics of its inhabitants, which makes it easier for weirdos like us to find dates. I've lived in places where it was *considerably* easier to find willing singles that one would like to associate with, while at the moment I live in a place where such people are practically unheard of. I didn't spill acid on my face nor become disfigured in any other way in the meantime, so my guess would be - it's not me, it's the area! :D

It can be the area. I live on cape cod. Its almost like living on an island. When I was looking for someone and tryed online dating there were always the same people on the dating sites.

One day I decided to try something, I changed my area on one of the sites to NYC. There was like 5x the number of people.

Actually, my parents agree that it is the area.

I live in a stuck-up area of rich kids who may be the same religion as me..bu they don't act like it personality-wise.

[quote="The_Face_of_Boo"]I often hear complaints here of these kinds:

"There's no good men in my city"

"All girls in my town are shallow"

"Men in xx state are shallow and idiots"

"women in my country are are ugly"

etc...

not strictly true. i would only ever look for a certain type of person and this http://www.bmedreport.com/archives/29354 article says to me that my chances of finding someone suitable is definitely influenced by the area. I live somewhere that until very recently was only ever coal mines and pottery factories and that's where the last 3/4 generations (that i know of, it probably goes further back than that) of both sides of my family have worked, people here are about as common as it gets + for a long time i'd meet people and be at a complete loss for something to talk to them about(my family are no better but at least they're mostly introverts). Stoke is just one of those places that's always behind, the chav type of nt outweigh everyone else and growing up here has left me with the feeling that i shouldn't ever talk to people because i'm only going to make their eyes glaze over. The guys like dumb slappers, the girls like dumb fake hard guys, round here i'm about as undesirable as it gets.
