Champ is mashed potato mixed with spring onions or chives. I love the stuff. Very similar to colcannon, which is mashed potato mixed with cabbage. It's very heavy stuff and lovely with a bit of gammon.

You know one thing I really do miss from my visits to England? Marks and Spencers. Mainly their sandwiches.
Yes, they are very good.

It's hard enough finding a decent sandwich here for take away, but at a decent price is harder.
Honestly? I'm surprised at this; many shops here in the UK do decent sandwiches for takeaway - in fact, at budget chains like Aldi you can pick one up for about a quid.
Ah, I see. That definitely sounds like something my hubby would like (he's from South London, but, heredity is mainly Irish)... ~smiles~ I never cook potatoes for him, though, because I don't eat them much myself.
Well, sandwiches will come from fast food chains or petrol stations. They're both usually pretty low quality for the price they charge. There are shops that focus mainly on sandwiches, but, they tend to be a bit bulkier and more expensive, rather than just a couple bits of sliced bread with decent filling.
I don't tend to shop at Aldi too much, but, I'm not sure I've seen sandwiches there (the US stores).
For people who like their convenience foods as much as Americans, it's shocking that we haven't got more simple sandwiches and sausage rolls available.
