And thats where you're wrong. Not only are they apes but the vast majority cant think for themselves. They rely on what others do to find what they need to do.

i disagree. i guess people see what they want to see in others. self-fulfilling prophecy and all that.

why do you disagree?because by your response you didnt understand what i said. i didnt say we see what we want, rather we do what we see others do. its as basic as how we learn. we are just so used to it that we dont notice it.

i don't agree that people don't think for themselves. i see that they do. i observe this on a daily basis. i can walk outside right now and see people making decisions for themselves and thinking independently. i see that people are perfectly capable of conscious thought, and they exercise that capability constantly.

you can set aside the idea that i don't understand what you are saying, as philosophers have been arguing about this for thousands of years, and there isn't a right answer. either side can be "proven" depending on how you look at it. you believe what you want to believe, and so that is what you see. i believe what i want to believe, and so that is what i see.

So you believe something because you want to believe it?

I don't want to believe in oblivion after death, but that doesn't mean I mustn't therefore believe this to be the case.

no, i already believe it, so i tend to see things that reinforce the belief.

Can I just say how rare it is to see someone admit that, in my experience? Despite that we all tend to see things that reinforce our beliefs.. people never really acknowledge that they do it.

I have not faked it, though I notice more women seem attracted to me when I am in a relationship. I tend to think it's because they see me and my current partner out smiling, being our happy selves which means I am capable of being a good partner. There may also be a hint of them wanting to be the one to break up a relationship, because it will make them feel special if I choose them over my current partner. I myself would not be attracted to a woman because they are in a relationship, and I would be less attracted to them in most cases due to the fact they are with someone. They are simply off limits.

I don't admit to it because the tendency to do so has been reduced big time in my case based on past experiences. I make sure not to fall into the trap of reinforcing beliefs based on falsehood. I may be wrong on something now (and I unknowingly sure am on several things), but I hope eventually that I see the wrong in it and not just end up reinforcing it as truth to the end.

I can say this works quite well actually.. before me and my now ex girlfriend got together with disastrous results, she would pretend to be flirt with me on facebook and stuff and I had more dates in that short period of time than I had in the previous decade. Granted, none of the dates went anywhere.. but I had girls asking me out on dates.. all cause a cute girl was making what were at the time fake passes at me on facebook.

it makes sense from an anthropological point of view.

The female's primary drive is to secure a mate that will provide for the offspring and will remain with her.

To have a guy tell her that he is in a relationship and he seems financially secure.... well that must be the female equivalent of a boner.

... 'cause i doubt 90% of women would be interested if he was in a committed relationship and was broke.
