Dang! I attempted to get my now-ex into wet shaving; did a lot of research and bought him a nice razor, complete with a bunch of recommended blades and a wet shaving kit. I tried it on my legs (I was scared sh*tless, at first), and got the closest, smoothest shave I've ever had.

I should've kept the razor and the accoutrements when I dumped him... I'm an idiot!

Unless you get something adjustable, it's a lot of trial and error. I usually think get a mild razor (Weishi, Feather Popular) as they're more forgiving with noob technique. Blades I like Astra the most. Family Dollar Personnas are good blades and cheap locally ($1 for 5.) Not the sharpest, but reasonably smooth. Most people I think don't need a crazy kit or anything, just get a razor and use it with your current cream and go.

Erm, Knives? I *didn't keep* the razor in question (sadly!). That's what I'm lamenting. :)

I'm telling you to buy those types of razors. Buy one and less lamenting.

I think shaving is pretty important. That's the reason I got into double edge razors. So I can have a shave everyday, whereas with a cartridge, the blades would feel worn quickly, and I'd only shave like 2-3x a week, simply because I'd run out of blades too quickly. Whereas a double edge blade costs like 10-15c, and you can just chuck it after 3-4 shaves, once it feels a hair less sharp, rather than dealing with a not sharp blade for a month like a cartridge. I also got into the habit of using aftershave, too. I use a Family Dollar Old Spice knockoff which is actually closer to original Old Spice because Proctor and Gamble changed the formula in like 1994. I got a few aftershaves I use, but I do like Old Spice, despite it being an "old man" scent. I do have a bottle of the new Old Spice, it definitely does not smell as good as the Family Dollar knockoff.

I wish they still sold Old Spice over here. I just had to ask a friend who now lives in Canada to bring me a bottle when he came over to visit his family a few weeks ago. Here you'll only find body spray and deodorant, no after shave or cologne anymore since like two years ago...

I have a few Avon aftershaves, too, and somewhere I have a bottle of Adidas aftershave that's only got like 1/5 left. If I'm feeling up to it, I use shave soap (Van Der Hagen from Walmart) and a brush, it does give a slightly better shave. Oddly, good old Barbasol in the can for a dollar and change is great stuff.

With or without dinosaur embryos?

Much better in my opinion than the fancy more expensive gels and whatnot. Lastly, for the razor, I'm finding going with the grain, BUT, using a more aggressive razor is better on the skin and makes very little discernable difference in smoothness compared to against the grain.

But yeah, buy a double edge razor, or some kind of razor you can afford to regularly change the blades to (Dorco has Dollar Shave Club for this purpose, too, with cartridge razors.) Another option if you can't handle the DE is to look into a Trac-II. The first cartridge razor, 2 blades, non-rotating head. The patent ran out on the Trac-II, so cartridges are really cheap. Walmart has the Wilkinson's Sword carts for like $3 for 10, and Family Dollar has Personna carts for it for $2 for 10.

I use an electric razor, disposable blades kept irritating my skin...

eating it or applying it directly to the forehead? (skin, that is.)

(had to use that stupid marketing phrase...)

Both, actually. I've been putting coconut oil on my face and body for weeks and I notice how much smoother it is. My acne has healed a lot quicker, too. No, you apply HeadOn directly to the forehead. :p

That's great news, Kinme :) Coconut oil and butter can be really helpful for some people, I found it didn't work for me but everyone is different, different things react differently for people but thanks for posting something constructive. I have heard it's amazing stuff if it does have a good reaction.

I have also heard that it's worked for lots of people. For stretch marks, acne, hair treatments, dry skin... Tons of stuff. It also tastes good and can be used in baking. Lots of uses.

So coconut oil then? Hm...

I used medicaments to treat my acne problem in the past, but if they ever surface again it looks like a good option. I have the unfortunate stim to pop them all too, unless I have none, so it's kinda important

Try it. Maybe it will work for you too. I had a big one on my chin a few days ago, and ever since I've used the oil, it's no longer there. It scabbed up and fell off.

It's because it's antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral.
Actually often used as a way to keep small wounds sterile and clean in tropical places in the old days - still is in the more traditional communities.
It can be used on many things - anything from acne to warts. Works wonders on hair - I use it every week for that.

Just read a very interesting article about how some molecular biologists have basically decided that there are two major strains of 1 family of acne bacteria which cause 1 in 5 cases of breakouts..

This may not seem like much, but they also found two strains of the same acne bacteria, that if present in higher populations.. actually will result in perfectly clear skin.. It's apparently something to do with the latching mechanism that the individual strains use.. the two that cause acne are basically provoking an immune system response by making nuisances of themselves.. where as the other two strains are playing ball and living out their tiny microbial lives and not bothering anyone.

It's interesting since, if they can isolate specific strains.. it means they can tailor anti-biotics to go after just those few strains that cause problems..

Still no closer to getting an innoculation or "Cure" for it though.. much to the relief of Johnson & Johnson, Proctor & Gamble and all the rest of the companies that sell worthless products to desperate consumers...
