It doesn't need to be rampant. There's sexism enough, whatever qualifier/intensifier one might choose. There are things said about and to women that simply couldn't be said in the context of race/ethnicity or sexuality or disability.

I'm really struggling with how this guy apparently thinks all the women here on this board are sexist against women and are psychologically projecting their sexism onto the male posters...

I think this is true. I think also that the way to make this change is for men to take the lead in refusing to accept that kind of behavior from other men. When women shout about misogyny, the whole thing gets written off as a "women's problem", despite the fact that we're over half the population. But I think men tend to care what other men think of them; I think men tend to police each other more effectively than women can.

What it means is that you guys have to do something potentially scary, which is to stand up to other men who are talking and/or behaving in sexist ways, even when no women are around, and make it plain it won't do.

There are two problems with your theory.

1. You assume men do not police each other when it comes to sexism. What is your evidence for this belief?
2. The types of men who make blatantly sexist statements and those who would be offended by such statements aren't usually best buddies. They don't like each other or respect each other's opinions. I don't see how hearing something from a person one detests will make much of a difference in ones opinion.

Why do you need further permission from alex to stop sexist posts?

I guess this was approved by him:

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt136567.html

Thing is, you need to report it, mods aren't aware of all posts 24/7.

In the politics section I saw once posts by some members joking how the Middle East should be nuked, I reported to the mods, posts deleted and users were warned. Problem solved.

Just report, and explain to them why it's offensive.

Female mods would be for women, because it's only natural that men wouldn't see sexism. I, for one, don't see racism.

It's so presumptuous of them to "know better", you dont until you walked a mile in my shoes, buddy.

Mods are also not always unbiased themselves. We need a strong woman mod who could control all these senseless misogynistic threads and shove all of them to PPR.

Even guys who come and say "oh I dont see sexism, shut up", thats pretty insensitive thing to say. I see, and I raise the problem, because I need a solution. If you dont see sexism, shut up and go discuss something else.

^ Who Am I is a female mode, and there were more, but it just happens there's only one now.
The TOS makes it so clear that sexist posts are forbidden, just let the mods know when they happen.

The problem is Alex has stopped the mods from policing certain misogynic activities on wrongplanet. Even if there were more female mods it wouldn't matter. Alex would have to stop this "let them look stupid" policy which doesn't work.

Is there's like an underground network of misogyny going around where people trade their hatred for women stories like contraband? Because I think I've only seen two or three real misogynistic post, and the guy that treated the women of the world like they were cattle has already been banned.

I just don't see the giant hub of anti-women sentiment unless we're counting the frustrated males in the nice guy vs. jerks debates, which isn't misogyny at all.

Sure it's misogyny. "Women owe me sex and affection because I treat them nice and I'm such a gent" is misogynist (also part of Rodger's manifesto), as are all the "Women won't come near me because they're materialistic and I don't have a job/car/other excuse" threads. Then we've got all the threads in which the fuck- ability of various women is discussed, and the attacks on women posters here in which they're told they're saying XYZ because they're fat/ugly/other thing that's supposed to make a woman unfuck- able. Then there are all the threads in which "fat woman" is deemed unattractive (as if this is a factual thing) and undateable (how women manage in this country I'll never know; most women are fat /sarcasm). And not long ago we had a guy asking whether it was a problem that he'd had the desire to rape women, and while some on that thread said, "Man, get help", others, iirc, sort of shrugged and said, well, I've felt that way myself sometimes.

And how could I leave out that perennial, Women Have It Easier Because They Can Get Laid/Married/Etc. Whenever They Want. All of which is tied to a deeply misogynist notion that women have value because they have, and maybe just are, uteruses (apparently in these fantasies, infertile women and postmenopausal women simply don't exist).

Yeah, it's not a friendly environment here for women.

Why don't you like men?

I don't think the worst sexist offenders on Wrong Planet would even think of doing what Elliott Rodgers did.

Yeah, I'm trying to decide whether that's a serious question or KK's playing for ironic bathos.

I might point out that female Tarantulas have evolved to devour the opposite sex. This whole thread is a trap!

We might want to keep this in mind, just in case the name isn't a reference to the dance.

Uh no you misunderstand, I was laughing because I agree with him. You have some serious hangups about men, and I'm guessing with however old you are, it's probably a bit too late for therapy.

Oh and like magic, the vagina dentata is invoked. That's not misogynist at all. It's like an embarrassment of riches around here; I'd just meant to show up here to point out our lovely newest contestant in the "I'm a misogynistic ass" games, the guy who just posted the screed under "Seducing girls", in this subforum.

Batting a thousand this morning, fellas.

Gah, poor attempt at lightening the mood then. I'm out.
