I support the public smoking ban, I used to be against it though. Again, if people want to kiss each other or smoke cigarettes, they should go somewhere appropriate, of wait until they are home.

Smokers can be courteous about it, that choice is up to them. If I'm in someone else's presence, I ask whether or not they would be bothered by the smoke. If they say no, and I start smoking, and the smoke keeps going right to their face, I try to move so that it won't. If they're in my apartment, well, that's a different situation. Even then, if I can tell they are bothered by it, I try to be accommodating.

It all boils down to whether or not one gives a s**t about how their actions affect others. Some do. Others do, but don't always know whether or not something they do will affect others until after they've done it, and then use that information later. Others still, well, everyone else is supposed to look out for their interests for some reason or another, they don't need to look out for anyone's

Which country would you suggest I moved to?

Japan or China to name a couple.

Many people kiss in public, as well as do other "unacceptable" things in China.

I recall this train station in China with a public toilette in front of it. There was no wall around the toilette, and yes, a man was using it when my train stopped in front of the station. No.2 no less!
:D

On the other hand, I don't recall seeing much of public kissing in India, nor in Saudi Arabia or Morocco.

Well, if the toilet is there, one should expect it to be used by others, even if they don't wish to use it. :P

Ban driving of SUVs in public! SUV drivers are not courteous about the size of their vehicles! They force me to look at them by driving in front of me! It makes me sick!

:P

Your usage of :P and  suggest that you are just as aware of how different and silly this statement is with regards to the subject of this thread. That, or you've run out of worthwhile points. :P

It's not that I'm being forced to look at something I find disgusting. It's that I'm being forced to look at it when it really isn't necessary. Yes, neither are SUVs but at least they have a purpose, I couldn't argue that someone should wait until they get home to drive their SUV. But I can say the same about their girlfriend.

You must explain what you mean by this "driving of the girlfriend" business. :P

I'd like to see that... someone waiting to get home in order to "drive" their girlfriend.

shadexiii: I was trying to make a point... I think the whole idea of banning PDAs is as ridiculous as banning SUVs. Most of the same arguments can be made for either side.

I said in the Last Person thread though, this wasn't meant to be serious. I didn't really mean we should actually campaign for PDA to be legally banned or anything. I was just highlighting how much it irritates me. I say I think things should be banned all the time, because, really, I would like them to, but I would never actually attempt to get that to happen.
Also, there are environmental reasons for banning SUVs so it's not a very accurate comparison to make.

And I'm trying to make a point as well. Even SUVs can be driven in a way that doesn't offend or harm others. It is an object, not an action. It also serves a purpose, as Soph said. You have offered several of these "similar" situations, and even the one that waas somewhat close, the smoking, I addressed in the same way that people would like this issue addressed. One can be courteous and aware that they are in a public area, or they can tell the rest of the world to f**k off, get over it, or move. The latter is simply unreasonable.

A couple other random points...

No more PDOs (Public Displays of Obesity). This has gone on long enough. If you want to be overweight, do it at home. I shouldn't have to see you in a bikini when I go to a beach or pool.

No more eating bananas in public. Especially by attractive women... it makes men's pants fit differently. On a related note, no more low-cut blouses or short skirts/hot pants.

Go ahead, shadexiii. Pick it apart. You know you wanna. :D
