Grandparents are pretty important in American culture, too. Especially in "poorer" communities.

Many times, they serve as parents to both the parent of a kid, and the kid him/herself.

Mine gave me alcohol

Grandparents are usually the 'spoilers' , they would give the kid yummy candies that their mom or dad would prohibit.

Are you worried that your potential children wouldn't have grandparents for very long, Boo?

I had one set in the US, so I only saw them once a year. The other set imploded. Grandfather went into reclusive hiding for eight years and grandmother died from the grief of losing her husband. I didn't have a lot of grandparent influence per se, but I still have very fond memories of them when they were around. Are you parents much older than you?

My Dad's another gym lover (11 x a week) he has his gym's record for the plank, and he's 77. You're ok for a bit yet.

Cheers, fluffy

I'll keep checking I'm still alive each morning.

Nope, my parents had my two siblings at a reasonable age in mid 20s and mid 30.

Except for me dad had me at age 41, and it was an accidental pregnancy.

I know a woman who had twins at the age of 55. The father was about 20 years younger than her.

All my diseases are entirely non-lifestyle related.

I don't drink (unless I can see the Mediterranean), I don't smoke, I don't do drugs. I eat healthily (diseases allowing ) and exercise. As some wag once pointed out... you don't live longer, it just seems longer...

I'm lucky. I'm 58. And all I have is arthritis in the knees which doesn't always act up.

My brother has Type 1, dad has Type 2.
I regularly get myself checked for pre-diabetes once a year.

If you don't get diabetes....and you don't smoke cigarettes....most people should be pretty healthy, at the very least, well into their 70s.

The "old voice," I have found, is usually caused by cigarette smoking. Many non-smokers even in their 70s continue to have a "young" voice.

The trouble is: In the 1960s, VIRTUALLY EVERY ADULT smoked cigarettes. And also drank alcohol.

If you watched a sitcom from that time, cigarette commercials/adverts were the norm (though people usually didn't smoke on screen, unless they were in movies). The wife used to make her husband "drinks" on sitcoms when he came home from work. It was seen as being routine.

David Lynch had his youngest child at 66 and at 73 he's as sharp as ever, never lost a strand of hair in his life and keeps smoking like a chimney with impunity. Yes, I'm fully aware he's not "typical" in any imaginable way , but he's definitely not the only person making the most of this time of life.

You're obviously in no danger

Leaving aside any chronical/genetical conditions, there's no reason to fall apart in your 50s or 60s or even 70s and I've personally met a surprising number people who were living independently and kept sharp and physically active into their 90s. A lot of people seem to mindlessly indulge in excesses, unhealthy physical and mental habits and that will, of course, take a toll on both their bodies and minds. In most cases, you'll get plenty of warning signs before it gets too late and one can have a significant influence on how they're going to fare in their old age.

Not to mention that strange and extravagant idea: people are different.

It felt weird reading this as a 19 year old with a 60 year old father. My mum is 58. Personally, I don't think this is unfair. I know that the age of people's parents can vary greatly, a few people I know have grandparents that are the same age as my parents. Others have parents the same age. Most seem to have 40-45 year old parents.

Despite their age, they've always been able to keep up with me. Which isn't too surprising, considering that they are big health fanatics. Especially my dad, whenever he says that he's going for a short walk, what he actually means is I'm going for a long trek through the countryside. Trust me, I've been on these short walks with him and they almost always take the entire day. My mother is also active, she goes to the gym and lots of dance lessons.

Thank you for chipping in, Lost_dragon, it's nice to hear the other side of the story!

Anyway it is not like I have a potential wife partner, so this whole discussion is really just rheteroic lol, and probably won’t happen even if I change my mind to want it.

Besides the f- autism..

- I had a very severe abdominal migraine from toddler age till around age 9, only after a neurologist diagnosis that it got treated with Periactin (all other doctors assumed it was an abdominal problem) , it was very effective.

- Severe ulcers caused by the abdominal migraine, mainly caused by the repetitive vomiting.

- Scoliosis , I can't perform certain exercises like abs workout.

- Tinnitus at age 36 which is considered young for it.

- Diabetes in 2 close family members.

- Ulcerative colitis in one close family member.

Naah....my genes suck, better not to transfer them.
