The best idea, that I've seen to be getting married was. Is that you give them (your partner) the right over your life. As in, the hypothetical circumstance, you were in an accident and you wish the machines to be shut down or allow someone to say "yes, go ahead, do that emergency untested procedure that might save your life". That is the power that marriage still has today. That is also dependent on which country you find yourself in and sees your partnership as legal.
There are ways you can authorize someone to do that when your unmarried. The health center gave me & my girlfriend some paperwork about it. Our doc brought it up cuz it's something the health center encurages paitents to do. We never bothered to really look into it yet but maybe we should just incase. I live far away from my parents & other family & I was never close with any of them. Cass's family is nearby & she's always been close to them but they have their own various issues they're dealing with & I would be more capable of handling those dose decisions for her.

Yes, former Legal Assistant, here...You are referring to a medical directive that works like a Power of Attorney but it is limited to medical matters...Rules can differ from state to state, so it would be wise to consult an attorney to draft it for you...This should not be expensive...Still, possibly more expensive than a marriage license ...Basically, you are authorizing someone, spouse or not, to make decisions for you regarding medical treatments and whether or not you want your life to be prolonged artificially....In case you ever become incapacitated and cannot make these decisions yourself...Doing this in advance, before any issues arise, and making sure that your doctors have a copy of it for their files, is wise to do...Greetings from CA...
