The way I see it appearance is what initially attracts 2 people to each other and everything else comes after
Depends how the 2 people first got to know each other. Occasionally people meet first in text-based online forums like Wrong Planet, where they each have no idea what the other person looks like.
Obviously, IF two people first met in a bar, or on one of today's looks-oriented dating apps, THEN the first thing they will have noticed about each other is each other's appearance.

I mentioned this topic to my daughter and she said there's a huge movement on TikTok of young women saying they like big men, meaning the chubby overweight ones as opposed to the muscular ones. It started with a song and turned into a whole social media thing. I looked at some of the videos and read the comments below. Most women are saying the same thing, that they like men with a belly instead of hardbody types, and they think "big guys" are more attractive.
I'm not saying if that's true or false because everyone can have their own opinion. I just thought I'd use this to counter the squirrel video comments.
There are all sorts of these videos online showing young women who like big guys. The song wasn't supposed to be about tall guys but somehow they've been lumped in too.

I noticed from work that the muscular men get considerably more attention than the chubbier men.
I think that video is an offshoot of the fat acceptance movement but for men. The fat acceptance movement is for the most part disliked with almost universal distain. Check out the likes to dislike ratio on all fat acceptance promotion videos and read the comments on all articles and it'll give a general flavour of public consensus.
Compare this to videos that are critical of the fat acceptance movement and the difference is very noticeable.

Are you saying I have another 9.5 to go? Damn that hair of the dog. That's rough.
