I can sort of see why people from that time would follow him. They had no television, so people today have probably seen more of Hitler than the Germans living at that time. Hitler uses fairly simple languages in his speeches, even I can sort of understand most of it. And he is speaking to a population that already hated the current political elite (traitors in WW1), the bankers, the Jews, the French, the British, the Americans. And they made sure that for his speeches they recorded the cheering audience, that makes a huge difference. It's not that weird that people followed him, especially after years of lies and propaganda.
