Interesting link, TechnoMonk. Reminds me that actually soon we will be getting census statistics from Scotland which will include the prevalence of self-reported autism/Asperger's. This AFAIK will be to the level of small areas, so we will get an idea of the types of areas in which autism and Asperger's are more common, across a whole country, and we'll see patterns.

To all those who can't find a partner and are blaming their area for it: it's you, not the area.
I will, and do, blame location for partial difficulty in dating. I live in LA. Lived here for nearly 10 years now. In those ten years, I found perhaps 4 or 5 love interests. But lo and behold I took some work up around San Francisco for three months...and in those three months I had about the same number of potential partners I had while in LA for those ten years! And I'm doing nothing different.
As corroborating evidence that LA is effed up, I also spent a week in San Diego with a friend, and had two separate incidences where women showed interest.
I also have a friend who was in LA for nearly the same number of years as I (an NT from Quebec) who kept striking out with relationships here. He thought it was his fault. He moves back to Montreal to find love, and boom, has a girlfriend within 9 months.
So I disagree with your premise straight away.

Don't confuse the effect of novelty with the area......
You were being the "new guy from LA" there and that gives you a lot of credits and a fresh start, girls go wild over foreigners with different accents. Also there might be some hollywood glamour about LA in particular.
And are you really sure that were doing nothing different? Even in your habits??
Most likely, if you were in a new state, you would behave more like a tourist after work. Going out to explore the new place, isn't it?
Besides, what I am noticing here that some of you have negative attitude toward the opposite gender in your area "All women in Scotland are wh*ers" , "All men in Hungary have tiny dicks". If you hold a such belief in your heart then you have little respect to the women/men in your area, no wonder you would be repelled by the women/men in you area, and most probably they would be repelled by you too.

Who is saying this? FYI Scotland and Hungary aren't towns, nor would they be considered areas.
I have been referring to my town, not my country.
The lasts parts probably true, but so what? they are still probably lots of places where people are repelled by gay and black people.
But let me guess, it must be them and not the area.

Man, stop playing the smart. I was just saying examples, and I wasn't referring to you in particular. The thread is about blaming the area whether it's a country, district or a huge town.

Wtf does playing the smart mean? are you opposed to intelligent discussions?
Yes I've gathered that's what this thread is about , why you needed to point it out I don't know. Whether it's a country or a small town it doesn't matter, it can still be the area.
People have gave very good reasons as to why it may actually be their area and not them, but you just seem to ignore them.

Ok then move to another town and spare us the drama.

There you go again, you just seem to brush off any legitimate reasons anyone may have.
What drama? I would hardly call having a negative opinion about my town as drama, and moving to another town isn't always that simple.
boo, you seem very set in what you think, despite evidence. Wht's so hard to understand? There is no set definition of attractive. Everywhere you go, every group you're with, they all have their own slightly different ideal and your rank within the group is determined by how close to that ideal. If you were in the marines and you were very intelligent but only just manage to pass on physical fitness you're going to be a valuble member of the team but you'd be far down on the list for attractiveness because it's the physical element that's the thing everything spins on. Take that same guy and stick him with intelligent people and you get a completely different ranking, the groups ideal is different. Believe me, i've spent my life challenging myself, trying to get good at things im not suited for, i've got lots of experience of being within groups where the things im interested in/am good at just aren't relevant. Then ive spent time where what im interested in is interesting to everyone im around and the difference is astounding. Find somewhere you fit in better if you're having problems.
I thought what Technomonk ^ wrote was well-said.
I'd like to add that yes, there can be a pervasive local culture no matter where you go (as some people have alluded to), but other people within that local culture manage to meet, mate, hook-up, marry, whatever. If the place is large enough, everyone eventually should have the ability to find a niche that they're comfortable in.
Waiting for society to change around you is a recipe for misery.

The population of a town/city/country is more diversed than marines or a Mensa school.
I am not saying area hasn't its influence but it's rarely the reason for being single for life or failing to get dates (except for extreme cases like afghanistan...). Btw my whole country's size would be the size of a city in a larger country.

it happens with every group, whatever it's size. Diversity has nothing to do with it. It's about the situation that the group finds itself in and the traits which are most valuble in that situation. Find people that share your interests, in that situation you can be king!.
have u actually traveled outside your area?

Naw...everyone I met in San Francisco has a low opinion of LA, haha. No glamour effect there. In fact, bay area residents have a very high opinion of themselves...which is great actually. So the fact that I stood out is some regard from their low opinion of LA says something.
As for respect, my respect for women doesn't change because of the area I'm in. I'm really not that sophisticated. I treat them the same as I'd treat anyone else. Somehow that translates to engagement anywhere BUT LA. I don't know why. I don't know that I'd ever figure it out.
I'm a fairly self-aware person. And for years I held the same opinion that you do...that area shouldn't matter. But I've started to piece this puzzle together from various sources...friends, acquaintances, etc. A former Uni classmate of mine left LA because, among other reasons, she couldn't get laid...which was a shock to us all. LA is just brutal. Plain and simple.
And yes, I've begun the process of trying to move somewhere else because of this.
