It always really makes me cringe when the autistic manchild-thing does a pretend 'date' with his mother. Major Oedipus issues anyone?

He's got a typical over-indulgent mother who probably hardly lets him even leave the house on his own

But I suppose it's better she's taking an interest in his life than not

Mike's 'dancing' is hilarious.

Yes I think it was her cleavage that attracted Michael's eye lol

I've got a mother a little like that, to be honest. Sometimes, I just have to tell her that, no, I'll get the bus there on my own (even if it does take me two hours to get there). I could get the bus back as well, but I won't get back from my pub meeting next week until something like 11pm, and she wouldn't like that. It's probably not a good idea for me to try to get the bus back when I've had quite a lot to drink anyway.

True.

I'm pleased to see that both Mike and Brent got along really, really well on their dates, though. I was cringing all the time when I watched Mike!

I can't wait for next week with the dwarf that said that men were only interested in her to see if they could spin her around on their appendages. Yes, I would. ;)

Also, here's another famous UK documentary on Tourette's Syndrome from the 1980s, called John's Not Mad. It's since been released on DVD with a commentary track and part of a follow-up documentary.

At first, Michael just annoyed me with his poor communication... but he kinda' grew on me towards the end. I sure empathized with his melancholy moment of being "destined to be alone", etc.

My first though was pairing a smart autistic with a mentally-challenged person was a bad match... they may be socially at the same level but she'll be missing certain intellectual abilities. Then again, if they wind up really liking each other and understand their differences - who cares? :D

He lives with housemates, so he's not staying at home with his mother. I think the young woman with aphasia was the only one still at home.

I've seen documentaries about that John before

I get a bit bored with documentaries about Tourettes people swearing a lot - they're very predictable.

I also think that if the person does swear surely they are just giving voice to what is in their head so they must have had the thought in the first place to cause the word to come out - this makes me tend not to like them. I prefer it if the person says a neutral word or makes a noise as this indicates to me that they are generally a nicer person.

It never ceases to amaze me the kind of warped thoughts men have concerning sex!

It's like many have some kind of novelty checklist in their heads!

It wouldn't even occur to me to consider such things

Sorry. No. Not buying it. Please try again.

i think there are few women in his area that fit his criteria for dating. i'd agree that is not the same as undateable.

I have been undateable for too long before; just bloomed very very recently and maybe too late to catch up.

More so than women in my opinion

I think the autistic man's idea of girlfriend maybe a little different to the real definition. From the sounds of it it doesn't sound like he had an actual RELATIONSHIP with these girls, for one thing they only lasted a few days! They may interact with him for a few dates etc but then they end it after a few days. He may think that they where actual girlfriends but I don't think that they considered him a boyfriend.
I suspect that they where all NT and therefore couldn't/wouldn't relate to an autistic individual. I was relieved when he found success with a woman who was also on the spectrum. I think that the Tourettes found success with another woman with tourettes?

I didn't think that the autistic guy's date at the end was on the spectrum? I thought they said she had a mild learning disability. As for the tourette guy's date, I don't think she had tourettes?[/quote

Oh, thanks for the clarification.

Heh... you need to chat with more of our own WP ladies, then. ;) You'd be surprised how many of them are into all kind of really, really.... "interesting" stuff. Not to mention, crave it every bit as much (or more!) than the men do!

That's the coolest thing about WP - you're more likely to get an honest, straight answer about touchy subjects than anywhere else.
