hello world! I'm Aaron, i'm 20 (turn 21 on wednesday , and I'm pretty sure I have Asperger's. Ever since I was in like third grade, I've always felt like I couldn't connect with anyone...I got diagnosed ADHD and prescribed Adderall for nine years - which I'm sure didn't facilitate social knowledge. I've known! known! that something was weird with me, and then I saw the movie "Mozart and the Whale," and was just like 'whoa! that was me 4 years ago!' I've kind of figured out how to seem normal around other people, but the more I've read about it the more I think I have it. Buuuuut until I get health insurance I'm self-diagnosed.
I really like languages, especially grammar. I studied Japanese and Spanish, but dropped out because I wanted to study linguistics and my GPA wouldn't go high enough to transfer before graduating Now I live in North Carolina, and I'm attempting to really live on my own.
Uhhhhh it's nice to meet everyone! I'm really glad this place exists, seeing other people with some of my same problems is quite gratifying, and it makes me feel better.

Seasonal felicitations to you all, many apologies for not having created an introductory post forthwith upon immediately joining this interesting forum; I've been trying to figure out what I should say, besides which I have to admit I'm kind of shy but I wish to get to know people and find my niche in society so to speak.
I like using Dickensian-style words, but as I'm fatigued whilst writing this recalling any to throw in presents a difficulty in being forthcoming with them; I like to think I'm a forthright individual and that it would be a virtue, though in my case it has sometimes turned out to be a vice.
Please call me Nat, most people do except family members and apart from anything else it's less likely to attract queries; I turn 21 next April 20th, exactly 100 years after a late-but-not-lamented deranged monster.
Since primary school I felt very left out and had real issues mixing and interacting with others, to the point I came not to care whether I related with anyone much in any way and just did my own thing and hence the computer became my life apart from study and I was also suspected of having ADD/ADHD but nothing came of that(no-one cared one jot, technically it wasn't their portfolio); since about 16/17 I wanted to change this as although I knew how poorly I performed on the social front I knew I wanted to improve in this area and to be frank not alot has changed since, in recent months I have seen a shrink about the depression I experience from the failure to mingle and after a few sessions he decided there was a significant likelihood I had some Autism spectrum-related illness but said he has no qualifications to pronounce diagnoses and to get an official one from Autism SA(I live in Adelaide, South Australia in the Land Down Under or on top depending on your geographical perspectives) would cost an arm and a leg(not literally though, thank goodness lol) so for the time being my AS is purely speculative but others I've known have said the fact I have AS explains alot.
Any of you who do live locally, an especially big hi to you.
I'm into trying new things depending on the level of risk associated with each, I would like to live that extra tad longer after all; sports definitely interest me, especially as I play soccer weekly as part of an initiative to aid those who are either marginalised, homeless and/or otherwise disadvantaged.
As it happens I am a disadvantaged job-seeker due to the fact I'm deaf in my left ear and have been that way my entire life, I'd be even more so were my AS made official but as I say ratifying that is going to cost a packet.
My computer/internet has always been a favourite pasttime of mine(not that I know much to the technical side of PCs, fortunately my two brothers are gurus in this remit), though I sometimes wonder whether or not my ability to sleep effectively has not been impaired by such protracted engagements in this area of activity; I also read, listen to music(many different kinds), enjoy movies, TV and cycling.
I love cars and especially American brands, mainly from '46-'90; I care not for any model originating outside that timespan, although I'm stuck with learning to drive in dad's '91 VP Calais but at least it has working air con.
At some point, I'd like to be able to have my first ever girlfriend; would that I have had the chance alot earlier in life but growing up in a sheltered Evangelical environment(things have changed somewhat since then) makes things a touch harder, and even harder as it would be a first. As a safe rule I created for myself: no less than 2 years younger and no greater than 10 years older, just seemed like an acceptable standpoint.
I'd like to be living independently, but it's hard when parents insist on doing most things; besides which I have to be honest, independent living's a really daunting possibility.
I want to get into security and about a week ago I had a short stint of work with a patrol company, they pay's great and the work can be interesting...sometimes.
Sorry about what seems like the mush, the above statements are fact and in no way intended to solicit sympathy; incidentally I heard about this forum from an AS suffer who's a friend of mine, hell even she says I've pretty much got all the recognisable.
Man this reads more like a this-is-your-life blog lol, I don't believe in normal either; that's a geometric property anyway, nice to meet you all and talk later I hope.
About my avatar, sorry I haven't got any pictures more recent than December 1st 2007; any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
I only just realised I've been hanging out here for over a year, and I never actually said "hi". Typical me!
What a crazy life. My dad was always falling out with his employers (definitely an aspie) so we would move town once every couple of years when I was a kid. I just kind of carried on the pattern as an adult, and I've lived all over the UK, and also in the US and India for a while. I can never stay in one place for long.
I'm gay, but I'm hopeless at meeting people, and even more hopeless at developing relationships with them, so have been single most of my life. I got bullied at school for my aspie characteristics. Then when I left school I got so much hassle for being gay... when I was 16 I lived in a small town, it was the UK equivalent of "redneck", and everyone knew about me - there was so much gossip. I got spat on in the street, and once this woman started shouting at me in the middle of town - "it's people like you who started AIDS" etc. In full public view.
I spent quite a few years in my early twenties destroying my brain cells on drugs, but that didn't really work out lol. I ended up sectioned in a psychiatric hospital after one visit to Glastonbury festival, but when I talked to the psychiatrist a couple of days later, after I'd recovered a bit, he discharged me, with a smile, saying "don't worry, one of our nurses still hasn't got back from there yet!"
Although I'm not always well enough to work, when I have been, I've found it really rewarding. Even before I was diagnosed, I nearly always worked in jobs working with autistic people, either in hospital units, or schools. I hated the way people would get treated sometimes, but it's inspired me to want to do something about it.
I got diagnosed about 18 months ago, after suspecting I had AS for quite a long time. It was really strange - because I knew this guy who worked for BBC local radio, they interviewed me about having Asperger. It was on the news. I guess it's still a novelty to people. I probably screwed up, but I hope I said something good.
I'm training to be a psychotherapist and also doing a psychology degree from home. I think it's really great the Autism Act has been made law in the UK now, and soon, all the local authorities will have to make a lot of improvements to the services they provide to autistic/aspie people. I really want to help set up a community service for aspies that's run by aspies - I want to learn how to make the diagnosis, and how to help people with the negative experiences we have to go through. Even though I'm "not supposed to have empathy", my tutor reckons I'm doing good, and that I can really pick up on what's happening with other people. It's strange though - I've always been able to do that in a formal or work setting, but never in a social environment.
Anyway, that's a whole bunch of random information about me I guess I've been through a lot of crap, but I think I'm a stronger person for it, and I hope I can use my experiences to serve others one day. I guess that's the best way to make something good come of it.
That's all I can think of right now...

Hello there
my given Name is Mathew
I am a problem solver
this is my second exploration of WP
I come equipped with a better understanding of myself now, and have much less to prove.
I am fully thoroughly self diagnosed as Asperger repeatedly. But turned away by a pschiatrist who diagnosed me as AN ARTIST. ' is that even a diagnosis?'
I just left this all in limbo since the trauma I endured during my attempted clinical diagnosis (if curios about this fun story Check My Blog)
Still in my heart Aspi has rung true to me like the cracked liberty bell.
I work a repetitive physically exhausting job to avoid the stresses of more resposiblity rich jobs.
In my spare time I bore my wife with long winded rants about my interst.
My interset is the restoration of Machines that move people. (Vehicles)
My favorite machines are 3/4 to 1 tonn Trucks... I just love how they are designed and built.
My favorite machines to USE have two wheels a Gas Tank a and at least 115 HP. My bike is a bit small to be a favorite.
I like machines to have skins that follow the contours of overbuilt chassis Like a Bodybuilder flexing its muscle. For this reason the super duty trucks, Mustangs and Sport touring bikes of yester year excite me the most.
I love snarling raw unrestrained road gouging power.
And all kinds Premium music can leave me sobbing if I hear it in the morning. Nothing meloncoly about it. I just cry because the sound touches me in an undescribable way.
My wife has watched me shocked to see that i was sobbing to death metal one morning when she wasn't supposed to see my eyes.
Very good Music feels to me like a sodium and fat soaked A&W burger tastes when your starving.
I can't handle seeing other creatures suffer and will inescapably sacrifice myself to a tormentor to allow a victim an exit. It hurts less that way.
i think the world is sick and off its rails.
I love the sun but work the night shift
"To satisfy my woman"javascript:emoticon('')
Thats it im machines and the mechanics of sound.
i feel compelled to fix it if its less than the best it could be.
i can see my future if i want it bad enough.
at least one way or another I get to where i had in mind eventually.
Love for all thats good and a tentative respect for that which is not.
Cool Cool

We're here for a good time... Not a long time...So have a good time, the sun can't shine everyday.
Well, this is fun!! How often do I get to talk about me?? My name is Hannah, I am a 56-year old Speech and Language Pathologist who works with kids 0 - 3 years old. I now live in Atlanta, GA. I joined this forum several years ago when I lived in the UK because I had a dear friend with autism who was isolated in a "home" way out on the coast-- I was hoping that she would be able to take advantage of this website and contact people who were much more functional.... like her... than the people she was sequestered with. Hey.... I guess that is not about me!
I am here now to see if I can find out more about autism from people with autism. I know my little kiddies are just dying to burst out and be with me, but sometimes it is really hard to get them engaged..... I try all sorts of things.... and would love suggestions of what you think would get a kid (they usually come to me at 2 years old) with autism to laugh and engage.
Not about me again..... let's see... I love my work, I think autism is fascinating because it appears so differently in different people.... easy to say when you don't have it, I know.
Hey, I'd better get to work.... will be reading more and more posts to try and figure out what to do..... Happy Holidays everyone! Best, Hannah
Hello my name is Andrew. I am 21 years old. I am currently in my Fourth Year of University doing a Bachelor of Arts degree with a Major in History and Minor in English. I plan to graduate in May 2010. I have black hair and brown eyes. I was diagnosed with AS when I was 6 years old. I love many different kinds music and enjoy listening to it. Sometimes, I think that my musical taste is TOO big. But, none the less it keeps my life interesting. My favorite bands and artists are: U2, Neil Young, Bob Dylan & The Beatles. I can speak two languages: French and English. I am
3/4 French, 1/4 Scottish. I also am obsessed with television news and radio and I want to have a job in either field. I plan to go to Broadcasting School after University. I also have a weekly two hour radio show on my University's radio station. I also love food and love to eat. My favorite foods are: pizza, french fries and seafood. I also play the drums and started lessons when I was 8 years old. I used to play the drums during the Worship Services at my Church. I also like Computers and know quite a bit about them. I am usually the go-to tech guy in my family. It's something that can be annoying at times. I also like hockey. My favorite team is the Montreal Canadians. I don't watch a lot of games on TV though. They are quite boring at times. Playoff hockey is probably the most exciting. I am currently single. This used to bother me a great deal and even made me depressed but now I have accepted the fact that I don't have a girlfriend and that I should just live my life. I work at a Grocery Store as a Cashier/Customer Service Desk Clerk/Cash Office Clerk. I enjoy my job and am thankful that I have one. There are some struggles with customers and it can be exhausting but I enjoy the company of the people that I work with. I also have my driver's liscence but it took me three tries to get it. I was very nervous. Driving isn't a challenge anymore. It's kind of fun. Anyway, that's a bit about my life.
