You Dutch people love your strange food, you have more flavors than us. Swedish people are less adventurous. My bf misses the choices, but mango flavoured chips sounds disgusting…

because cats/dogs/rabbits/snakes etc are mainstream pets. while wolfs/foxes/raccoons etc are considered to all be wild.

Maybe it is also legal to farm cats and dogs for their fur? Meh, I don't see a reason for people in warm climates to wear fur anyway, it is ridiculous. I understand why people in Siberia want a fur coat but when I look outside and see people with a dead animal around their neck during summer I just want to call them idiots.

I fully agree as it seems so haphazardly and whimsically done. Dogs and cats are protected in some areas, because they've been domesticated and kept as pets, same for some other animals. But in China they're being eaten in a rather cruel manner, and all because of some tradition. In some areas they treat animals as mere utilities, in other they glorify them, and some dogs, I heard, even have their own shrinks

i'd call them idiots as well, those who can skin seals alive and other animals for fashion industry so that rich snobs can show off...

still it makes little sense, I heard people own anything from pythons to piglets as pets, why not foxes?

can't farm cat/dogs here. and lots of states/cities have laws against harming them and you can go to jail for it along with fines. there's whole police agencies that only deal with pet/animal crimes.

sounds horrible about the seals. :'(

mainstream. foxes aren't, pythons weren't but were spread illegally and became mostly mainstream now. you can find them in pet shops all over now. but there were less laws back then. pythons use to be considered erotic animals but I guess they aren't now. but now foxes are banned in most states so they won't have a chance to become main stream. which is sad they make such lovable pets. I'd never make a wild one a pet though. but reality is there's mostly domestic foxes and domestic foxes. so why choose to ignore their existence and leave them unloved and craving it. or worse kill them all.

piglets are pigs right? thats a case of farm animals becoming pets. which is more mainstream then wild animals(even if they aren't' really wild anymore) becoming pets. suppose I could smuggle a fox back but if caught they'd kill her/him. :(
no fox for me, shame really they don't cost more then a dog and I'd rather have a fox. would be fun to walk a fox besides if dogs attack it. :S

there's videos of walks or taking them into stores. funny thing is most people think their dogs.

you US folks really can see a lot of wilderness; I'm happy when I spot a ladybug.

we have tons of those , not special anymore.

we have problems with mountain lions at the college and in parks near my house sometimes. scary, as close to wildlife on daily basis I get except when driving in woods.

mountain lions??? in US? wow!

i saw a quail a few times in my life, one time one slow worm...and that's it! we go to the zoo if we want to see anything more exciting than ants, slugs or insects. i get excited when I spot a squirrel here, that's as wild as it gets.

wow, so snake is mainstream and fox/raccoon isn't...I know one person in UK who owns a raccoon, I wonder whether their laws are any different. I know I haven't seen any fox here anywhere except in zoo.

wow, it would get killed if you'd own it  if you'd walk a fox here, you'd most likely get a bunch of weird looks, some would ask about it, but no one would kill it. US seems like a weird place as far as animals are concerned - I know that there are squirrel hunts in some areas of US, just for the sake of hunting them, claiming them to be "pests" as if they're mosquitoes or some disastrous larvae of insects, but then some activists follow those hunts, try to save them and keep them as pets....makes little sense.

I mentioned piglets, since I think George Clooney had one.

But you have slivovic or whatever it is called :)

We also have the witbier/weissbier, that has a bit of a banana-like flavour but does not contain any bananas, it is simply unfiltered beer that tastes a bit yeasty as well. And it has a picture of a drunk monk.

lol šljivovica could be used as a potent killer  it's so strong, even smell can wake up people from the dead. it's made from prunes, and it's some kind of killer brandy.

Many love it here though, and many make their own in these kind of pots, my grandpa used to make it as well:

Lol drunk monks, I guess it means they were the first to make that witbier/weissbier :)

A lot of the monasteries made beer to fund themselves. Some of the great Belgian beers originate in that tradition, probably the same for Germany.

I've seen people on tv make slivovice in some area of former Yugoslavia. There are also a bunch of Yugoslavians living in the Netherlands who left during the time of communism. That is how I have heard of the stuff. Especially the older people seem to get out the booze at any opportunity.

they were smart to leave...I guess they made it even in Netherlands? I wouldn't be surprised :)

and yes older people love it  my grandma would be able to drink it first thing in the morning, and yes many in rural parts are addicted to it.

"red bull gives you wings, and šljivovica four wheel drive"

I must say I haven't hear of monks making beer till now, just wine and cheese :)

They even planted plum trees here, their plums are a bit different from the ones we have here. So I guess some of them brewed it here.

Here are the Trappist beers, also beer brewing monks from a certain order: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trappist_beer

Many of them are in Belgium and there are even two in the Netherlands (only the south was Catholic here, the Calvinists don't do monasteries), and the weather is not good enough for growing grapes so they made beer. They make quite a lot of it as you can find them in every supermarket. Belgium is probably the best beer country in the world.

Drunk people "walking", that is a side effect. Google "blackout korea" and you will see similar pics of Koreans gettink drunk on their local brews. Many of them look like perfectly decent office people with suit and all. They just have a culture that likes getting pissed after work.
