I have come up with an essay. But I'll compress it for readability's sake.

2 things seem like the most important properties of an attractive quality
1) creates pleasure (in whatever way, sexual is usually important)
2) reinforces bonding (in whatever way, intimacy & acceptance usually important)

If these are the most important properties (I'm having the audacity to prooflessly claim that they are, mind you), then

3) Self-controlled.
4) Takes teasing well.

that would make these rather meh. :|
Humor is pretty good though.

Everyone: If you can find reason to disagree with me, pls do so and especially challenge my view on what makes a quality attractive.

I can easily see how an independent thinker would fall under both of the categories you listed. An independent thinker isn't solely influenced by the words of others/authority figures, they come to their own conclusions whilst still being opened to hearing out other points and reconsidering their stance. Having dated someone like this in the past, I can say that this quality creates pleasure for those of us who appreciate an enlightened debate with someone who doesn't utilize logical fallacies and who can be swayed if your argument is sound. Which, in turn can be quite the turn on. Naturally, a reinforcement of the two peoples' bonding would occur after this mutual exchange of intellectual stimulus has taken place.

My only desirable quality that I can think of is my good looks. And that doesn't help me nearly as much now as it did in high school.

(I don't mean superficial things like how much money you earn etc.)

Well that pretty much ruins everything I was initially going to write down.

Non-superficial qualities, huh?

*exhales deeply*

It's a tough one...

I'm a very superficial person, one with a great many superficial qualities, who almost hides behind each and every one of them, as though each were thin silky veil whose gradual layering obscures the man beneath.

I suppose the one truly genuine thing I could offer is a journey into the very heart of madness itself, an unforgettable adventure down the rabbit hole, to where the delicate strands of fate has begun to fray away at the edges, and the age old fineries of the masquerade of life have started flake away.

A world of madness filled with Autists, Bipolarists, distorts, Empaths, Psychopaths, Schizophrenics, Shifters, and, Sociopaths. An insane world, my world, a world that once seen can never be unseen, a world to which so many others are woefully ignorant off, a world... That could be yours as well.

Ah, s**t. Sorry! I always try to go for the joke.

I did think it was a nice piece of writing, though.

Thank you guys, I thought Katie(InsomniaGrl) meant typical long pants because if those are meant to be short version I thought she would've said short pants. We call those kind of underwear pants .. panties.. here where I live.

And warm welcome to WP, BerenLuthien! :D

I think gentleness is an attractive quality in a man.
Especially when he is otherwise strong.
A hairy Sasquatch who rescues orphaned baby ducklings is exactly my kind of man.

Being a baby duckling rescuer is the most attractive quality ever conceived!

Okay guys, now you know the secret, so go rescue some animals :D

This is a wonderful topic, Raleigh. I'll try to answer it when I've had time to think. :-)

In other words, Raleigh likes a big Teddy Bear type of guy. Perhaps like Sly?

Maybe on subconscious level it means strong, manly and "willing to" (not quite, but it's an indication)/able to raise offspring.

Manliness is not machismo.

Manliness means the ability to be caring, nurturing, so-called feminine--when that is needed.

It's the ability to be a big teddy bear, rather than a wife-beating brute.
