You're thinking of destiny in the wrong way. Think of it meaning that you are the product of an endless line of organisms reproducing successfully, surviving, meeting the opposite gender of the species, and procreating. Viewed that way, it's really not such a hopeless goal that any or all of us will end up reproducing as well, if that's what we want.
