Would you consider dating someone who was Christian who voted Republican?

I am a moderate, non-judgmental Christian, and I vote Republican because I am opposed to high taxes and inefficient government programs.

The thing is that there are virtually no conservative people with the same interests as me, so I was wondering where I would stand with liberal, possibly non-Christians.

(Keep in mind that this is purely hypothetical, not asking people out on here)

^^ if you are voting vote Republican because you are opposed to high taxes and inefficient government programs, I would say you are at least getting a chuckle out of the liberal artsy types.

well to be fair, I think TimTex meant ARTsy, not arsty. He just didn't know that the term "artsy liberal people" is a derogatory term long used as a put down for those with different political views from Republicans. Now, he knows. :D

You forgot to include the "hipster-ish" adjective too.

oh, gawd, yes, hipster-ish, too. I am starting to wonder if the OP was just intending a gratuitous broad swipe insult at a whole group of people, but we Aspies can be pretty dense about stuff, so I will let it stand.

I didn't mean anything offensive by what I said. I was just wanting to know if I would still be considered dating material to someone who didn't have the same political and religious beliefs, but had the same interests (Simpsons, South Park, indie/foreign films, etc.)

the key word here is "consider." Anyone you meet will have certain faults. Suppose that the woman were a moderate, non-judgmental Christian, but was an amazing cook, was phenomenal in the sack, and would even invite an occasional girlfriend over for a threesome. Then, I could probably overlook the moderate, non-judgmental Christian attitudes.

I personally would have a very difficult time dating a Christian Republican...even if they liked the Simpsons and Southpark....I am too far left and non-Christian to let that slide.

Hey, I'm an artist and a conservative. I make abstract art my husband says nothing about because he doesn't want to get into trouble. And a Christian.
As people who are trying to help Rwanda and spending half our income to do it and helping out poor people we know, my husband is bemused when a liberal asks him why he wants people to starve. Oh, which reminds me that today I mean to pick plums for the foodbank.

No. But it's nothing personal, I just don't like what the majority of power driven republicans stand for in the U.S. and our economy.

Perhaps you lean more toward liberal but just don't know it. This will however require a little suspension of disbelief on your part.

Have you ever wondered why you haven't been able to find conservative people with the same interests as you? It's because your interests frankly aren't conservative! I mean, for example one of your own stated requirements of the girlfriend is that she's sexually uninhibited. I don't think many conservative women are like that.

Have you ever considered voting Libertarian? They are generally fiscally conservative... but more socially liberal than typical conservative/Republican. In my own opinion, you'd have more luck with liberal non-Christians if you voted Libertarian than if you voted Republican. That being said, don't start voting Libertarian just so that you can get a liberal non-Christian girlfriend, you should actually believe in the Libertarian political platform to do that.

My whole point is that you seem to insist on using labels to describe yourself, and you rely on labels for weeding out potential girlfriends. One, you need to make sure the label you choose for yourself fits, otherwise it'll look like you are misleading potential dates, plus you'll turn off people you could in fact be entirely compatible with. Two, you're essentially making people put themselves in a box. What if they are liberal on some issues, but conservative on others... how should they assign themselves? Yeah, the liberals and conservatives closer to the ends of the political spectrum won't have much problem putting themselves in their little boxes, but there are a TON of moderates out there, like yourself, who cannot be put in a box so easily. Your chances of finding a compatible girlfriend will vastly improve if you cast a wider and less-discriminating net, and let loose the ones you don't like after some contemplation, than if you were to cast a very small net that has a lot of very specific requirements right off the bat. You may find, for example, you're willing to let go of the South Park requirement in a particular woman if she for example has something else to offer that you really like. Relationships are about compromise, not "my way or the highway".
