Why can't my emotions focus?

When it comes to affection, I can't focus. It just seems rather generalized, unable to link a particular intensity of emotion to any particular person. So I cannot say, in a romantic way, that I love someone. I can say that my affection seeks something to settle on, but cannot. I have this sneaking suspicion that if someone were to actually be interested, maybe even several someones, that I could not choose. Or that I would be so full of uncertainty that I would be unable to be definitive.

In some cultures its perfectly natural to have affection for all of your friends
such as kissing and hugging. The bible even mentions this in the context of
what is now called "church" five times.

Polyamory is having more than one lover (as in boyfriend/girlfriend).
Disease and Jealousy are obvious hazards though, as well as it being
rare enough to find and have a durable relationship with one Significant Other.

My problem is I can't separate out affection. There is no distinction in my feelings; it's all general affection. It all feels the same.
