When it comes to personal ads, who should take the initiative and reply--the man or the woman.

The person that feels like taking initiative. The whole "man asks woman" thing has started to go outdated. It's not going to be completely stamped out, but at this point it is safe for either party to do the asking.

It's a little more complicated than that. On most dating sites, you gotta be a paid member to initiate a message. The paid members on most sites tend to be men, so they'd be the ones who initiate contact. However, there are free sites where anyone can send the first message, and I use a paid site where the gender ratio of paid members is more-or-less balanced, so I've had a girl contact me first. Simply put, subatai was right, but it's affected by what you can and can't do as a free memeber.

I probably will not use any personal ads other than Aspie Affection, because the women on the regular personal ads are too shallow.

You got that right, Tim. I cancelled all my dating site accounts (except for Aspie Affection), for that very reason. Plus the fact that the few "good" women that were interested in me were from too far away to be feasible - any from around here that were interested in me were either sl*ts or were in very high demand and got taken before I had a chance. I've come to believe that the only long-distance relationships that can work are ones where you actually meet the person locally first then they move away.
