My boyfriend wants us to double date with his boss and his long term girlfriend.
But i'm really uncomfortable with this. I told my boyfriend this and he said it's okay and I don't have to.
But I feel bad because he does everything I want and I can't even do this one thing for him without creating a fuss.

Does anyone have any advice on how to make the best of having to go on this double date?

My thoughts are to let your boyfriend do most of the talking. Is he an outgoing type. My thoughts are not to over think and worry. I'm sure you want to make a great impression on his boss, but just being there makes an impression. Try taking deep breathes whenever you are feeling anxiety.

It's going to be so bad.
I'm just going to put on a sexy dress, heels, nice makeup, nice hair.
And hope I can look halfway normal at least.

Where is the obvious inclusion of alcohol that you of course would require?

Noooo. Any alcohol would be bad.
I'd make a fool of myself. Which would lead the the boyf getting angry with me.
Which would be bad.

Seems like a rather unhealthy working relationship..

I would be awkward too. Just do your best to make polite small talk, if it gets too much go to the bathroom.. but don't do it too much or it will look weird.

I've never understood why people go out for dinner and sit around for hours. I go to eat and then get out.

I don't know, I don't think it'd be that bad... think your just letting panic get to your head... the spotlight isn't really on you, so you can be silent and eat your food w/o ppl really noticing... just put on a polite smile and deal with it like any other social horror one must attend (virtually all my family meetings and stuff are like it... I'd rather NOT go, but sometimes you have to).

I don't think you'll make a fool of yourself... wait a while before you say anything if your worried, if ppl are joking in such a manner than fine, join in, but if they seem all stiff and proper, keep the jokes to yourself, because might not be appreciated... honestly, your most likely to end up being "paired" up with his girlfriend, and talking with her for most the night... so who knows, maybe you can make a friend out of it!

I mean, I know I'd rather avoid it... but I've attended friends meetings w/ their families and stuff, and very similar thing... I just sit there quietly, eat my food and speak up if someone asks me something or if I hear something I can contribute to... not the most pleasant set of affairs, but if it makes my friend happy I was there, its worth it...

Really, your just letting fear and anticipation let you panic... but when you get into the moment, it won't be nearly so bad...

If only I could agree my liver would probably be a lot worse off. The only place alcohol goes is in my gas tank. I can't wait till E85 becomes more mainstream
