I've spent a lot of time thinking about why I feel a relationship is so important, and it always comes back to the same thing. There are a lot of times I just want to be held, to know that somebody cares for me. It seems to be a big part of why I want a relationship.

It seems like I'm always gravitating towards these deeply physical, emotional relationships. When I find them, it's easier to cope. I become more alive and motivated than I was before.

Normally I hate being touched, but it's different in a relationship. There, I thrive on it.

It's validation... Everyone craves validation when they don't have enough of it. It's like food.

I find this weird...I'm not real sensitive to touch. A random dude could give me a hug and it wouldn't bother me one bit. I agree with the first poster though. That's one of the main reasons I want a relationship. To put my arms around someone and tell them I love them, and the member of the opposite sex to do the same for me. Here's to waiting...

I'm basically the same.

I wonder if most people are.

temple grandin [or somebody] needs to invent a hug machine. i would pay good moolah for one. it would be an animated manikin-type of deal, with soft skin and hair. if they can make sex dolls, they sure as hell can make hug dolls for those of us who got the short end of the warm fuzzies stick.

Haha! That is an idea. You could probably get rich off that.

I like to get hugged for the same reason. It is reassuring knowing that somebody out there cares about you personally.

I have a friend that I have odd random discussions with and we were talking about how some people are tactile and others aren't and he said that he once read an article about an autistic woman who had a machine that filled her need for touch. Wish I knew where he read that, but possibly there is something out there.

And to answer the OPs question. Yeah, I feel like that too. Some nights I go home to an empty house and I just want a hug. I have a great big fluffy cushion that I lean on and wrap my arms around while I watch tv or just listen to music.

Yup. Intimate hugs are awesome.

Hug Machine

Temple Grandin has invented a hug machine, sort of - it's a smaller version of the cattle run device she invented to keep cows calm on the way to slaughter. I don't know if she's considered developing a commercial version. If there were enough viable interest in such a product you might get Matt McCullen, the designer for RealDoll and BoyToy to come up with a lifelike body to house it in.

Aah, to be held. (: Who can blame you for feeling that way?
It's an amazing feeling. To think someone wants to be that close to you, wants to feel your heart beat, want to touch you.
It feels wonderful, no doubt about that. Safe, warm, comfortable. Mraaaw. Am I the only one sighing here?

I'd love to be hugged by someone who feels like they're not supposed to just because they're related to me.

Indeed, certainly not.

Good to see, I'm not the only one with a sore romantic heart. XD
I might be naive, but I'm not willing to give up my rosy spectacles.
Neither will you two (now that you've confessed, I'm forcing you to stay in my army of hopeless romantics!!)
It's our party, and we'll sigh if we want to?

...Gosh I'm an idealist this evening. Swell. 8)
I'm ready to take over the world - I will of course be defeated, all idealists are - but oh well, at least I'll make history for the worst attempt of reaching world domination.

@Mouldy: There's nothing wrong with not hugging, if it doesn't work for either of you. (-: Just because it's the usual doesn't make it right. Sounds like you really care for each other.

I'd give you a hug, but there's kind of an ocean in the way...
