Both of my previous girlfriends were like that. My first girlfriend tried to get me to do things that were illegal (like drive my parents' car without a license).

But not all women are like that.

'Tell you to do stuff like your parents'? What stuff are you referring to, and how do your parents do it?

You'll need to be a bit more specific if you want an answer - I currently don't understand the question.

You mean like "Tidy up!", "Wash the dishes!", "Mow the lawn!".

Well.... yeah.... sometimes girlfriends will say things like that. But only if you've been lazy, avoided taking responsibility for decision-making, and generally not done all of the things you should have been doing in the first place.

Of course, she will have things to do as well. Relationships involve co-operation AND negotiation!

Plus, the side benefits far outweigh the whole 'taking out the trash and picking up the dog poo' aspect.

It's not neccessarily girlfriends, either. Some boys do it, too. (I can confess to it) But it's best to see it in context of why they do it; it's because they care for you and don't want to see you hurt.

Oh, I get it. They tell you to do things like your parents as in, they tell you to do things resembling the way your parents tell you to do things, rather than it being that they want you to do things resembling the methods your parents use.

Sorry, misunderstood the original sentence.

And the answer is, it depends on the girl. And on your parents. Some people have bossy parents and laid-back girlfriends, others have laid-back parents but bossy girlfriends, and some have other combinations such as both being bossy or both being laid-back. It all depends on the individual situation - your teacher was being incredibly over-generalising.
