So, I learned my ex, who I dated off and on again for years and almost married, will be featured on a reality show that is to air soon. The episode he's on is apparently about speed-dating and he got on the show because he went to a speed dating event with a friend and got chosen by the girl the show was following. Plus, he has a big personality and is very outgoing, so the producers decided to follow them on their date following the speed-dating event.

He and I have been close friends for a long time and I have a good track record with staying on positive terms with people I've dated, but I think actually watching this when it airs will be a bit much. I mean, when I care about someone, I usually care about them for life and want them to remain a part of my life in some capacity, but that doesn't typically include actually watching them dating other women and having it rubbed in my face, lol.

On one hand the curiosity is killing me, but on the other hand I have the feeling I'll regret watching it if I do. What do you guys think you'd do, if you were in my shoes?

I can understand your conflict. Maybe you could get someone to watch it and tape it for you and give you an idea about whether it is excruciating to watch or not.

I was actually thinking of doing that. My brother, who knows him pretty well, too, might be watching it, so maybe I can ask him to preview it for me. Knowing me, though, I have the feeling I'll wind up watching it regardless.

There is a strong chance he will appear very foolish. Reality TV is not usually very flattering.

^This.

My mother and stepdad did a reality show for BNN (dutch TV producer) and they actually just twist/montage stuff so it looks more sensational. They even got asked to act ON A REALITY SHOW/. They didn`t get scripts but the producer said: be angry and stuff.

Even if you watch it, take it with a grain of salt because what you see in the show is probably not what happened in reality.

You can make money out of this, just let the producer knows you were his ex and he was your love of life, and you'll granted to call your ex during the show: So you act crying on the phone, and say how much you miss him and how much feeling jealous and suicidal.

More drama ==> more watchers ==> more money for everyone.

PURE GOLD.

to the OP... i dunno what to say. i wouldn't watch it as i think it would be really distressing. he will be chatting and flirting with that woman just like he did with you. or maybe more so. in your situation i would scrutinise and evaluate every glance, every touch, even the kiss (or more). i honestly don't see any way you can watch it without either feeling bad about yourself... or about him.

it's true that most people have to deal with an ex moving on and dating eventually, but we don't usually tag along and watch their first date.

That's harsh. I don't know anyone let alone an Aspie who's had to deal with that scenario. I'd have a hard time not wanting to watch it myself though. I mean how often does a weird thing like that even happen? Who knows he could make a fool of himself and rejected for a more attractive man, or he could score and end up with that chick. I'd have a hard time not wanting to watch bits of it even if I couldn't handle it or the out come. I don't know what to say other than that, it sucks.

Lol, it was already taped and it's not a recurring role. Otherwise, I'd agree I should definitely milk it for all it's worth.
