Do Opposites Attract?

There seem to be quite a number of posts from aspies looking for aspies.

My partner is not aspie (but has other problems ).

I think opposites attract. This is a poll to test reality.

I would prefer someone similar to me (another Aspie, or someone with similar interests, or someone with similar goals).

I don't mean you shouldn't have similar interests and be compatible, its just I don't think aspies are best suited to aspies. Long before I heard of AS, my partner and I used to joke that I was the one with the brain and she was the one the the heart

I think opposite personality types attract (IMO) - interested to see poll results if most AS find a non-AS partner or not, thats all.

My wife was NT.

Maybe too much alike could be a problem.

For example if your a INTP maybe a more productive INTJ could keep you a$$ in gear.
(both common aspie personality types).

I am still in the process of getting DX,but I know I have a lot of "traits".....My boyfriend(of 4 yrs)has no interest in learning about As or getting DX but I think he has a lot of traits....many life long focused obsessions,poor social skills and reading of non-verbal(worse then me because I can tell when people are getting bored with his obsession monologues or when he is unententioally being selfish)He has tactile sensitivities but not taste/hearing ones and he has a lot of cognitive traits which he believes are do to his MS(he could be right)so........I cant take the poll.....but the reason we are attracted and seldom argue is because we have many interests in common(literature,music,movies)and because we are different....he remembers to mail the bills on time,can drive better,and is "laid back"hates fights...
I can do some cooking and cleaning/organising(not well but better then him)have a bad temper but calm down fast,and can focus on more then one "obsession "at a time....

In other words....this is not a black and white issue...

I may have to change my opinion.

I heard on the radio recently, that ASD is increasing. They said if people on the autism spectrum mated randomly with people, there would be very few ASD:ASD couples and having a genetic relationship with ASD would not be aparent. They say there is also significant empirical evidence that ASD are attracted to/seek out other ASD.

I've dated both and there are good and bad points of both aspie and NT partners, though I prefer NTs because aspies can get quite lost in themselves, and if I'm doing that and they're doing it too, it can make for some very cold evenings together. Whereas NT girls are normally able to pull me away from my distractions (I prefer that word to obsessions).

Opposites may attract, but for relationships that last, the people are fairly similar.
