This week I'm going to try out a salsa class at a local night club. It's the perfect opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. I've been doing ZUMBA almost every week for the past year or so, and I figured what better opportunity is there than taking it to the next level?

Have you ever done salsa before? I think it's a really good way to learn how to meet women especially if they pair you up.

I used to love salsa years ago and went several times a week and even considered training to be a teacher at one point. Its definately a good way to meet people as the dances are like an introduction and you have something to talk about (the dance and the music) so its much better than a regular nightclub, also if the night club runs lessons before the club opens proper (which most do) they set you up with the people and change partners every few minutes so you have an introduction to everyone.

I made lots of friends aswell as boyfriends going to salsa and agree with you that its a good way to find someone (but women need to be a bit guarded as there are lots of letches there).

hope you enjoy it and find someone :D

i'm pretty sure most women at a salsa class assume any straight men there are actively trying to meet women. so at least it'll save you having to give out any 'i'm interested' signals. i imagine you being there is sufficient for your signal, so all you have to do is look out for any recriprocating signals. sounds like a simpler way to meet women to me :thumright:

did i use the word signal too much

I think this is great! I'd love to do it, but I have a problem with strangers touching me. I even have problems with people I know touching me too intimately (and salsa dance can get intimate-ish).

Salsa is like learning a martial art. It's impressive right up until you meet someone who has been doing it since they were a child.

Salsa is a great way to meet women. Just bear in mind if you ever break out your salsa move at 3am in a Latin American city, there are 200 guys there who can blast you out of the water.

Ya gotta start somewhere. That is kind of disheartening to know though because I live in a city with a HUGE Cuban population, even though it's not a "Latin" city.

I went to salsa classes with an old friend years ago. I Didn't take part, just stood at the bar watching on and the female-male ratio was about 80-20. I'd love to learn the tango! Already got the attire, just need the partner and the trip to Argentina! The top hat looks so cool!!

The upside is, as essentially a foreigner, you will win some points just for trying if you make an honest go of it. You can never in this life go wrong indulging in a culture that is not your own. People love when an outsider is sincere in their interest.

There are certain types of clubs I just love. Salsa, tango and jazz places seems to have an abundance of women. A lot of the men are intimidated by the environment. And in a lot of places, there's almost an unspoken rule that if a guy is there by himself, a woman must magically appear to provide him with a dance partner.

The biggest thing is that at the hardcore clubs there are guys there who know their skills play. And if they want your girl, there ain't much you can do to stop them.

But, like any club environment, it;s a departure from reality and you shouldn't get overly invested. Club environments in general should be treated like backyard football -- no one's keeping score and the goal is to just have fun.

That's good to know. I've been doing ZUMBA for a while (which includes a lot of salsa), but the women in those classes don't seem to be into men all that much. Either that, or they're all committed.

The great thing about a salsa class is it's a good place to f up and get better. In other words, it's better to f up in the class than it is to f up when you're asking girls to dance.
