Ok, so I have a very important question. Smart asses are welcome, but please do not hit below the belt mkay? I have a crush on an old high school friend of mine, and I suspect that he likes me too. We hung out at a club one night, caught him looking my way while I was dancing and stuff. ;D We did some catching up and he asked me if I had any kids, I said no, and he gave me a thumbs up and smiled. What does it mean? It's a strange reaction don't you think? I don't know, what would you guys think if someone asked you that?

I think he likes you. Maybe you could offer to meet him someplace for coffee ... ?

Good luck!

I hope so! I know he wants to settle down and have kids. We're both at that age already, and so far he hasn't had very good luck with women. I think he wants to have my babies :D

wait wait wait wait......the thumbs up is now considered a socially acceptable form of saying "awsome" again??? 8O

just last friday i was ridiculed by my friends for responding that way to a girl (uggh)

anyway yeah he likes you, probably alot too sense not too many men will risk giving the "thumbs up" to a girl

you should do what Fnord said, and good luck

now im going to go hav a word with my "friends".....

Take a chance, since you won't know otherwise.

Sounds pretty clear, the way you describe it. Hopefully he's not just being a tease.

You should probably confront him about it at some point. Do it in a playful way. Like, ask him out for a coffee, and say "so, how would you feel if it turned out that I was married? "

I would interpret that as he would like to date you and he doesn't date women with kids. The thumbs up lets you know that in a nonverbal kind of way. It somewhat means "You are in a datable catagory for me and I'm glad you are".

Sounds more to me like an awkward social moment. I don't see how a thumbs-up would be an appropriate response to what you said, given the context you've provided.

Does he have any kids himself? It sounds to me like he is doing his homework. Maybe he just got out of a relationship with someone that had kids and had a rough time. Kind of like in his head he's thinking "phew, thank god, she doesn't". I don't know I would've just asked what they mean.

Exactly what I thought too :D

@The_Wanderer: No, he doesn't have any kids.

Maybe he thinks kids are to much hard work, and the thumbs up shows he thinks you made the right choice.

I think you should ask him about his views on children, if he doesn't want children or responsibility in the long term and you do, it could cause major conflict in the relationship. Also I think it's a bit harsh to not date someone for that reason because if he really liked you, it shouldn't matter if you have kids or not, if you did have them, he would have to accept you and that they are a part of your life.

this. he might also be seeing a lot of girls around your age that have kids, and see their strife that the kids bring, and not want any part of that.

This is also how I interpreted it. Unless he was just making conversation and the thumbs-up was a noncommittal acknowledgement of your answer (since you were dancing, gestures are easier than words).
