Guy I was seeing has Aspergers and he doesn't know it. What's the best introductory book for an adult who especially has trouble with romantic relationships?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you a psychologist?

Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. Great book.

I can't recommend any books for you, but I think you should definitely tell him about your suspicions before you give him any book on Asperger's. Handing someone a book does not seem like a good way to introduce someone to the idea that they might have Asperger's, in my opinion. Or maybe you were already thinking the same thing.

No. I'm not a psychologist, ValentineWiggin. I'm Aspie and in love with someone who's Aspie but doesn't know it, at 63 years old. Long time to not know the cause of all his romantic problems.

Hi Orr, I read Catch 22 when I was in high school (I'm 59 now), so it was a long time ago. Is there an Aspie character in that? Or why do you suggest it? Yes, it was one of my favorites.

Good idea, Unloser. I did mention it to him in an fb private email, and I pointed out that I'm Aspie too. I hope that would help him feel less defensive, and I told him, of all the differences people can have, I thought Aspergers was the coolest, because we're very smart and very focused. He's an incredible blues guitarist and very talented.

I invited him to come to therapy with me to learn why we had such problems. In the meantime, I ordered Loving someone with Aspergers syndrom and 22 Things a Woman who Loves a Man with Aspergers needs to Know. I sent a link to the table of contents to one of his friends. I'm hoping that together we can gently help him to see that it's a blessing to find out this diagnosis and can help him, even if we don't get back together.

I used to think I was a loser, but now I'm an Unloser too.

Best,

WonderWoman

There are many great characters in Catch-22, but they are not professionally diagnosed.

Great book. I would recommend it to anyone.
