Why do a lot of couples look like they're related?

Seriously. Most couples I see look like they're related. It reminds me of The Simpsons, how Milhouse's family members all have the same face.

Is this a narcissist thing? Or a psychological thing? I do see the odd "mismatch" every once in a while where they look nothing alike, but for the most part, Milhouse syndrome all the way.

Probably because incest does not bother them... I dunno actually.
Must admit though I have seen a few who look more like brothers and sisters.

LOL Nice.

Probably because we are attracted to people who LOOK like our relatives.

It's not exactly an incest desire or anything, but we can relate to our siblings and when we search for potential partners, they have some of their traits....

I can't explain it but it has some things to do with appearance and personality traits they share with your family members.

For example, I wouldn't mind dating a Brunette with dark eyes as that's something I'd go for. My brother is dark eyed and has almost black hair.

I also have a soft spot for red heads, but I have an older relative who's also a red head....despite me never really meeting this relative of mine as I was really young when she passed away.

Because women are attracted to men who look like their father, and men are attracted to women who look like their mother? I think that was one of Freud's ideas.

Something like that.

You tend to be more attracted to someone who looks similar to you, or so I am told.

A better question would be if Hill Billies ask this question about us.

"Why do people date people who are NOT related? I don't get it"

In my case, that is definitely not true. :P

I was once smooching my (now ex) wife and a couple people were aghast, thinking it was my sister!

Yeesh... just because we both have brown hair & glasses doesn't make us family! She had a narrow face to my wider one...

But I still prefer wavy-haired brunettes. ;)

According to a well known local writer there are two kinds of people
Those that are comfortable with their appearance and look for similar traits on their partners
Those that are uncomfortable with their appearance and look for what they wish they were.

Its an oversimplified approach but I think that theres definately some truth to it.

I probably fall under the second category then. Although, there was ONE girl that I liked who looked like she could be my cousin. But I snapped out of that one pretty quick.

It's also said that people start to resemble their pets after a while of living together.

Well I don't feel attracted to people that look like me at all. Feels like It's like dating my little brother or something, just gross.
But it's true what you're saying, TS. I do often see couples that look like eachother.

Well, I am very comfortable with my appearance, but I don't look for similar traits on my partners.
For example, I have blonde hair, which I am very happy with, but I don't look for men with blonde hair. In fact, I find darker hair on men much more attractive.
I like my bigger breasts, and longer hair, yet I don't feel attracted to men with large ehm breasts and long hair.
I doesn't have anything to do with me feeling uncomfortable.
