I'm sitting here starting to hate myself for setting that happened about half an hour ago.
I've been planning for a while now, atleast a few weeks, to ask out a girl. Today I had the perfect opportunity to do it too. I had the girl by herself and all it would have taken to ask her out was a tap on the shoulder to get her attention and asking. Afterwards I'm thinking why didn't I do it, it was just that easy. However at the time no matter how much in my mind I said 'do it' my body and mouth refused to do what was needed.
Does anybody here know why this happens and what I can do to prevent it happening again?

Happens to me, too. I don't really have any useful advice to give.

I imagine it must be related to nerves... Probably just getting more "social practice" would go a long way.

It could be worse. Right when you were finally going to utter the words, a friend could show up looking for you and ruin the moment. And then, while he's still talking to you, she stands up and leaves.
:(

ive always just blamed it on doubting myself, that i feel ready now, but i might think of a better way later, so i hold off until later, again and again until its never.

are their social gatherings that you know you both enjoy? do you clearly know if shes single? does she have a casual report with you? (meaning that you have talked to each other in the past in depth of any kind whether work or school or something).

if youve never talked, its probably going to be close to 'cold-calling', if you have talked before, then it should be easy to just go up and start a conversation about something irrelevant, but you know that if goes well you would want to continue it later over coffee or dinner. so maybe ignore the dating part, and start with the conversation part, cause if that goes well, the date part should be simple.

I have 3 classes with he and the way our scheduele organize its atleast one class every day. I've talked to her a lot during those classes and once or twice outside of them. So it wouldn't be 'cold-calling' but I never have a good amount of time to just converse about anything. Because of the scheduele I don't have a good chance to ask until next Tuesday but I can try to just think about talking not asking out and go from there. It might be easier if she is already listening to me

And Machf, that happened to me the first time I asked a girl out. I already had her attention so I wasn't going to give it up. I literally shoo'd him away like a fly or a cat. If only I could remember how Managed to get the girls attention and ask the first time I wouldn't have this problem

I have some methods.. one is that its completely inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, whatever you say will be blown away like dust on the wind if its no good... it will be forgotten.. so say it anyway? may as well..

the other is where i imagine the scene from 3rd person...

This sounds intriguing, could you elaborate a bit more on it though.

Im not viewing this scene as me and her, im seeing it as my if you like "character" talking to her.. you have to detach the negative feedback from yourself.. so it merely goes onto this shell character who doesn't exist..
you are looking at it from a side angle its not YOU getting flack.. its your image of yourself projected... i know this sound really strange
But you can reinvent yourself.. so do it as lord flasheart...

Here's another one: after having thought "next time I come across this girl, I'll say 'hello'", when it finally happens, I notice sort of an angry expression in her face and so just walk by without saying anything...
