Are any of you guys (or gals) often mistaken as gay?

I am tall and HWP. Not the skinny/small type that society associates with gay by any means. Nor do I have six pack abs or walk around in super tight clothes or shirtless. But this still happens a lot, by both men and women.

Anyone else have the same experience?

Yep, all the time. Maybe doesn't help I figure skate and listen to girly techno music and Japanese pop. Oh well. I wish I was gay, girls like gay guys.

height-weight-proportional. So not fat or skinny.

It has happened to me many times, and I am still puzzled as to why.

No. But when I was a child, people always thought I was a boy.

My ex partner who had AS was always mistaken for being gay. It didn't bother him.

I've had it happen quite a few times, I think part of it is I don't act as "manly" as many of the other guys around here, and my seeming disinterest in "hot" girls probably doesn't help either.

happens to me all the time, doesn't bother me too much as I'm mostly gay anyway; but I do try to hide it, so it does annoy me :(

I think being mistaken for gay is a (personality?) trait common in AS.

I complimented a random guy on the street for having a nice wool coat. and he tried to pick me up. so I guess that kind of counts.

I'm kind of flattered in a way but that's just not my thing. I seem to get along well with women that are gay as well. which kind of sucks since I really would like to get on well with strait women.

Kids thought I was a lesbian in high school.

Yes, from time to time, but I am not gay. Mostly the Barbie types (of women) think so.

Sometimes. I think it's because I don't wear makeup/heels and don't always know the unwritten social 'rules' for being a girl.

People are confused by me, I think, because my communication and physical mannerisms are quite male-(stereo)typical, but I have a (stereo)typically-feminine appearance.

Yes. Not as much as they used to. It started in middle school when I had really long hair and looked like a girl. Other guys would either assume I was a girl (until they heard me talk) or just a gay guy. In some ways I am a bit feminine so I can see where they might get the idea. For the first 15 years of my life I had that ponytail and had an androgynous look about me, so it was very hard for people to tell what sex I was unless they heard me talk (my voice deepened at 11 years old, way before most guys).

Now, since I get asked a lot if I have a girlfriend, and have to say no to those people, some of them have started thinking that I'm gay, when really I have bad luck with the opposite sex. Even my own mom thought I was gay for the longest time. Truth be told I kinda wish I was either gay or bisexual because gay dudes hit on me all the time (which creeps me out).
