Serious replies please, nothing smart-alecky.

So, I see myself as mostly an L.A. person, despite being born and raised in Western Washington; what are the women in Los Angeles like? Shallow? I am wondering....

I lived in various parts of California for five years including LA for two years. The best way I can describe the way people of both genders are like in LA is to quote what my boss at UCLA once said to me. He had just returned from a trip to Iowa and he said: "When I got on the plain it was so refreshing to see all the ugly people. They were all just themselves, not concerned about how fashionable their clothes were, how overweight they were or whether their hair and makeup were perfect."

Materialistic, money-grubbing, social-climbers who are never satisfied unless they can feel superior to someone else.

Well, seriously, you should check it out for yourself. After all, the city of Los Angeles is made up of almost 4 million people (half being female) and the county of Los Angeles is made up of almost 10 million people (half being female). So, you know, can't be brushing too broadly with those numbers.

And don't believe everything you see, hear or read, including what's on this thread.

Seriously.

People in LA (not just the women) are maybe a bit more stand-offish than other places I've been. But they're no more vain and materialistic than anywhere else.

Except in the Valley. Don't go to the Valley.

It doesn't sound much different from Essex where people compete about who has the best tan, suit, watch or car.

So you are saying Essex is the L.A. of England? Just wondering.

All I've ever heard about L.A. women is that they are hyper-competitive over superficial things like fashion, looks, weight, and social status and fame. Think of every girly girl stereotype, and imagine a whole bunch of them competing over it for the sake of competing. Although not everybody will embody a stereotype, stereotypes exist for a reason. Also, L.A. girls are supposedly really hot. And since they sound emotionally detached, they are likely very horny. I would say the best way to avoid those kinds is to stay away from 'the scene'. If you avoid the scene, you will avoid those types. Sort of like college.
