OKCupid is a dating site where people have to answer a lot of questions to build up a personality profile so that they can then be 'matched' with people with the same or similar answers/opinions.

It's an interesting concept and can be fun to answer loads of questions about yourself

Example question- "Do you think it should be a crime to burn your country's flag?"

So you can see that there are controversial questions on there

When you look at another person's dating profile it will show you the extent to which their
answers to these questions correspond to them being a 'friend'/match or 'enemy'/not a good match, given as a percentage

The site says that the more questions a person answers, the more accurate their matching system will be, as it's had more data input to build up the profile of you

There is also the opportunity to make up your own questions

This is where in my opinion it gets dodgy, as unbeknown to me it appears that several people on WP have come across questions on peoples' profiles relating to paedophilia

It would be useful if these WP posters could give more details/background information

I just wanted to warn people that anyone making reference to paedophilia or being a paedophile either on their profile or via the questions on their profile is to be avoided at all costs and reported to the people who run OKCupid

I would strongly advise you NOT to interact with these people, no matter how open minded or forgiving you think you are

I would also advise you to come and tell people on this website about any approaches you receive from such people, so that other people can be warned and hopefully kept safer.

Good post Nessa.

Although I have seen some disgusting messages, about that same subject, on WP. :(

Thanks Sandra

Was this people on WP advocating paedophilia?

I think it's important to encourage debate on this topic so that people are better-informed and are encouraged to share any concerns they might have about people who post or talk about paedophilia or approach them on dating sites/anywhere online or in life generally

The more we act as a proper community on here, looking out for each other's welfare and safety, the better in my opinion.

Someone posted that if no one wanted to date them (the p word people), then they would have no choice but to be with kids, or some crap like that. I'm still sick to my stomach with that comment.

I can imagine

I think it's an important issue to discuss though as I can see a situation whereby a person with Aspergers or any condition that left them socially isolated and rejected could potentially decide to go down or be encouraged down that path

It is very important is to let people with the opinion given in your example know that while they or another person might feel very hurt and socially rejected through not being able to find a date, there is NO justification for paedophilia or the advocating of it whatsoever.
