my approaching skills is it better than before?

so, in the past I would just go up to 19 year old girl and start talking to them about adam sandler
or family guys, and 90% of the times, they basically just stared, but surpisely some actual did talk
about adam sandler or family guys, but after a while I realize that this approach was not getting me anywhere
and talking to 19 year old girls wasn't either, so I decide to talk to a more range of women (22-40, and sometimes 19-21 year old)
and no longer only talk about adam sandler or family guy(I do little a bit but not as much) but when I approach
women here a example on how I do it.

me: hi, my name is ''bill'' (go for a handshack)
how your you doing
lady: good
bill: so, are you in college
lady: yes
bill: cool, so what kind of classes are you taking

and sometimes I have to go threw the ''filters'' many times I start with college,if not college, I go to their job, and so forth.
like 2 days ago, I approach a lady, and I found out she like ''lord of the ring'' so I built the conversation on that,
and other lady I approach, I found out she liked running, so I talk to her about running.

I am not perfect, or am I any where near an alpha male but my approach skills, I think has improved.

I think you are doing *really* well Billiscool. I am happy for you. Hope that soon, you will find someone who deserves you.
