I thought that I would recommend this documentary to you guys:

http://www.seekingasianfemale.com/

primarily because of all of the whining that goes on here about nice guys.

Steven, the male protagonist, is the quintessential "nice guy." Basically a marshmallow, whom even the film-maker, Debbie Lum, admits that she doesn't respect. However, she really wants to make a documentary about White men who are fascinated with Asian women, and she finds Steven to be the most willing and open of her options.

Steven has been divorced twice, and, of course, is in debt and lives in an apartment. He works as a toll-collector in a parking lot, and is 60 years old. He has been living alone for about a decade, and has it in his mind that he is going to marry a Chinese woman.

And, he ends up marrying a lovely Chinese woman half his age whom he met on an internet dating site, and whom many men would probably be very happy to marry.

They can't speak each other's languages, and of course encounter some strife. The film-maker ends up serving as a translator and counselor for the couple.

In the end, they make a cute couple.

By the way: it would seem that Chinese ladies are not turned off so much by the "nice guy" characteristics.

You do know that the west has basically, and pretty much turned Asian women into fetishistic objects, almost. Typically it's the "they are nice guys" and just so happen to also be helping out the girls family with money, toooooooootally not why they are sticking around, nope.

In the documentary, this wasn't the case, especially as the guy basically had no money. Also, Chinese these days typically come from small families,

I think it will work, because her expectations would be different, if there are even some expectations to speak of.

Her one firm demand was that he cut off all relations with past flames. Steven was still communicating with another Chinese woman who had previously turned him down for marriage. And, he held on to communications with other women, and even stacks of old mail-order-bride catalogues. These had to go.

The movie ends with the film-maker visiting them on their one-year anniversary. Steven seems as happy as a lark.

I had thought that it would be more difficult for an American to find a Chinese bride, given that Chinese men outnumber women and that a fair number of Chinese men are importing brides from Vietnam because of the low number of Chinese women. But, it seems not to be especially difficult for an American to find a Chinese bride.

This is part of why the film-maker wanted to do the documentary. She is of Chinese descent, and is, of course, well aware of the fact that lots of White guys are fascinated with Asian girls. A White man with an Asian woman is the most common inter-racial coupling in the United States (the second most common being the White woman with the Black man). The film-maker herself has a White husband, so it would be somewhat hypocritical of her to complain too much about the attention that Asian chicks get.

Suppose that the tables were turned somehow, and that lots of women started fetishizing Aspie men? I don't think that we would be complaining about it too much, at least compared to the present state of affairs.

I only saw the preview so far but she doesn't look very happy about it!

Given that the film-maker is female, I was originally anticipating a bit more of a feminist twist to the story. Something along the lines of "This woman is being EXPLOITED and treated as a COMMODITY! Nice Guys DESERVE to be kicked in the groin, and NOTHING MORE!"

While she did occasionally tip her hat to the feminist perspective in her voice-overs, it was very mild, and her treatment of her subjects was quite sympathetic.

This film could end up being a major promoter of international marriages. Guys watching it are going to think: "if that old coot can go and get himself a hawt wife half his age, then why should I be lonely?"

The film-maker may not have had this goal in mind when she started filming. But, feminists may be hurling their bras at her.

Well, yes. Here is the feminist perspective on the film.

Steven finds his bride, and it turns out that she actually has thoughts and opinions and she sometimes gives him hell. She is, in fact, a real person and not a subservient animated China doll! We are all shocked, I am sure. I haven’t seen the movie and don’t know how it turns out, but I kind of hope he sees how she wields that meat cleaver and takes the hint.
