ok, I am from oregon but too many people I sound ''southern'' , in fact I've been ask many time if Im from the south.
the majority of people in oregon do not have an ''accent'' or they have a ''neutral'' or ''general american accent''.

I wonder could that effect getting into a relationship, because almost every women I talk to thinks Im from the south
and the southern accent is stereotype as being stupid.

and it doesn't help when all these guys on youtubes who complain they can't get dates all have a southern accent.

ladies be honest, at least women from the west and mid west u.s. if a guy came up to and had a southern accent,
would you think he some stupid redneck.
and having autism doesn't help either. Because people may think Im ret*d or stupid just because How I talk.

(Im nearly 30, but can pass as 22 year old, and have mental age of a 15 year old and talk like a southern good ol boy)

Move to Mississippi and no one will have a problem with it! (I'm from that area but no I don't have any accent at all lol). If you have a really thick redneck accent then yes, it will probably impact you some, since often how thick your accent is correlates to how country you are.

An accent wouldn't bother me at all. I live in rural Ohio and a lot of people around here have a similar accent, including a young man I once dated. It doesn't matter compared to other, bigger problems someone might have - an accent isn't even a problem, just a quirk.

and american who don't have any regional accent, alot of times think people with southern accent are stupid.

I am a sucker for an accent! So that wouldn't be a problem. At least for me.

That's sad that people with Southern North American accents can be pegged as ''stupid''. I like the accent, it's one of those accents I could listen to all day, it's so rich; like a Jamaican accent, ahhhhhhhh, heaven.

Don't worry too much. Try to be more confident. It could be seen as sexy or lilting as well.

I always thought the main accents that come with a "stupid" stereotype are Austrian/German ones similar to how Arnold Schwarzenegger talks for example. Very heavy versions of that accent are especially bad.

Well, I am from Missouri, yet I learned to talk in Arkansas--so my accent is fairly Ozark. I get pegged for country at times, especially when on the east coast. I feel there is some underestimation when people first speak to me, which is not always a bad thing :)

I was born and raised in Alabama. There are lots of different Southern accents. There's the genteel drawl which can sound rather sexy in an old-fashioned, romantic way. There's the rednecky "Yee-Haw! Let's rassle!" And there's the dumb hick, "Nobuddy never diyud larn me howda tawk raht."

For some reason, the first one is associated with Georgia and the last one with Alabama.

I'm a dude with a northern accent that lives in South Carolina. Accents are also hot on women, as long as they aren't extreme and the dumb hick talk.

I love accents! The only one I had trouble with was someone from Louisiana because it was so thick. I still liked listening to it, just couldn't understand what was being said half the time.
