Has anyone tried these? I signed up for one the day after Valentine's Day. I really think I am getting to the point where I'm presentable in public again, even in such a hostile/intimidating setting.

Has anyone tried them, or does anyone think they are absolutely a bad idea? I hate going to things like this myself (but that's really the only way to go to things like this), but being put in new settings like this might be good for me.

From what I gather, women are given a lock and men are given a key and you have to find your match. There was such an even in Toronto in the last week. It's intriguing, but I don't think it would be my thing.

And then what.. are you obligated to go on a date with them or something?

I mean I could see my luck now.. I'd wind up getting the combo with the 1 girl in the whole place I didn't like physically or something..

This seems like as bad an idea as OkCupid's Blind date thing.. which would have just wound up pairing me with any one of an endless string of girls I probably have a load in common with but wouldn't be interested in physically for any money.

Yeah. Never tried the OKC blind date thing though. Have you?

No. Because I already see what all the women who are on OkC who live around me look like in their profile photos.. I'm not interested in any of them enough to message them when i can see them.. let alone just meeting them some place and being obligated to spend money on them..

I'm not going to call them ugly, but *I'm* never going to see them as attractive either.. the only ones on OkC near me who are remotely attractive to me I've already messaged ages ago and gotten shot down by.. usually because I'm actually what they *say* they are looking for rather than whatever it is they are *actually* looking for.

I could see that type of event having one more key than lock, and of course, my key wouldn't open anything, haha. Even if there were as many keys as locks, mine would probably malfunction or something.

I'm guessing that the lock and key thing is sort-of a gimmick to have people going around deliberately having to interact with those of the opposite sex in a (hopefully) non-threatening manner. I think what tends to happen when you find a lock and key that match is that the two people go back to a proctor of sorts and grab a new lock and key as appropriate, then go back to the floor.

I'm not sure how it's ensured that no locks or keys go "unmated" all night...

And here I was thinking of something a bit more naughty. I had no idea stuff like this existed. :P I don't know that it's an entirely bad idea. You could still potentially meet a few really interesting people.

No I was just commenting on the fact that my luck tends to be crap and I'd wind up getting stuck with the one girl I found unattractive.

Well, between the fact that there were too many dudes to the number of girls (moving to the East Coast way from this TX sausage hole soon and can't wait!!) and my avoidant personality traits (lol), I ended up not going.

Yeah moving to the east coast won't help you with that unless you're really particular about WHERE on the east coast you move to..

I imagine you'd have just as much luck moving to Austin... as moving to some place like where I am..

D.C. attracts single women in the same way that Austin and other Texas cities attract single men.
