Could this actually be a pickup line some women perform on men they've never seen before?

Because some guy (jokingly) told me it was, after some female whom I have never seen before used that line on me out of the sudden.

The only way to find out is to try to keep the conversation going beyond there.

Make a joke about an awkward place you could have possibly met each other, being clear that its a joke(an attempt to smile after saying it should be enough), and see how she reacts and so on.

Not really intending to have something with this girl, as this happened more than 5 years ago and she's not my type (despite of her clearly having the looks).

But the topic of this pickup line does interest me somehow and I'm curious if someone else on here has had the same stuff happened to them.

It could be an ice breaker, or genuine curiosity.

Only one way to find out.

Yes, but they're usually trying to get something from you.

Yes. Both girls and guys might use it as a way to start a conversation with someone they find attractive.

I've had people use that line on me, maybe because they were interested, maybe for some other unknown reason.

I doubt that it's true or if it was it probably was from a long time ago. I barely leave the house.

I usually respond with, "I get that all of the time ... who do you think I am?"

I had this the other night, and couldn't make head or tail of what she was saying. I think she was trying to get a free drink out of me and my mates.

No random stranger has even told me that.

Just once when I was on a bus a man told me that I looked like his friend's daughter, but he didn't tell me that he had seen me somwhere.

Oh, great! I've said that to people before, really meaning it. I hope they didn't think I was up to something!

People have told me this, and when ever I respond: "Oh from where?", they drop it and say never mind. Now I am almost certain they were starting something. But then again people have said this meaning it, and I respond no I don't know you because I was tired of people telling me never mind when I am truly interested in why I look familiar.

Indeed.

Having prosopagnosia (face-blindness) makes that a fairly common occurrence for me, although most of the people actually know me.
