Hello Group,

I hope you all don't mind me posting in the forum - Alex has given his permission for me to do so.

I write from betty TV, producers of Channel 4's 'The Undateables'. We've just started making series 3 and are looking for unlucky-in-love singletons who would like to take part in the new series.

You can watch the series on 4od (sorry I can't post links to the forum).

For those that don't know, 'The Undateables' is a dating show for people with learning and physical disabilities who have had problem finding a partner. In previous series' we have featured people who have Aspergers and/or Autism, and we'd like to do so again.

The series will follow key mile-stones in our contributors’ journeys and explore their thoughts and feelings about their experiences along the way. From meeting the agency and getting their dating profile set up to preparing for their first date, we will document the highs and lows of their journey. The intention is that there would also be an accompanying information and help web-pages for viewers.

We’re really excited about The Undateables returning and feel it is a great opportunity to continue to create a greater understanding about the issues and prejudices that are faced by people with learning and physical disabilities.

If you are interested in chatting with a view to taking part (no obligation) please get in touch, by PM..

many thanks
Neil

Does it work? Do the participants end up getting dates?

I can't see how doing a show of pity would change the society and convince the girls (or guys) to date the person in question. I never watched the series, but do they bring results or just gather sympathy?

They do indeed go on dates - with varying degrees of success... but then, isn't that just how it is with dating ?
:-) I think it's a good series... although I think that the title is a bit crass.

Guys and girls will date show participants just to get on telly, sometimes it might be cute ones or equally undateable men and women, it depends on what the show is looking for to attract viewers that week.

I think any WP#ers from the UK that class themselves as undateable should give this a shot :) they might prove to be wrong!

No. Get lost.

Never, ever talk to the media unless you know exactly what you are doing.

^ This. Definitely.

I should clarify that I think it's a good series, as in I enjoy watching it and don't find it offputtingly offensive or anything like that.

But my goodness, I wouldn't dream of applying to be on the show.... that's totally different, and I'm amazed that anybody would seriously do that.

Exactly how I think of it too. I have no desire to be the nation's entertainment for the evening.

Participants go on dates on the show.

Then they also have a page setup where people can approach participants where some tell them how much they could relate to them/how they have a friend with whom this participant would hit it off... so theres a chance of finding someone.

You have to be ok with being seen as a joke by most of a nation though,
Some people stil remember the guy with the lynx/axe thing on first season(2 years ago) for example

OP, I suggest to tell your HQ to give the franchise to some Lebanese media

I am not kidding, not because it's my country but the media channels here were always the ones that took such franchises and turned them to shows for the whole Arab World = 22 countries and 369,243,763 population (The participants are not just lebanese but of all arab nationalities), so imagine the numbers of audience would be.

examples:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab_Idol

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Academy_Arab_World

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Voice_Ahla_Sawt

However, your franchisee might have to adjust its name to "the Unmarriables" :lmao: :lmao:

That's the guy with diagnosed Aspergers, right ?

Not only do some people remember the Lynx/Axe thing, they also remember his strange highly pitched voice and the way that he kept nicking that woman's chips.

Bear in mind too that it's not going to be just one show, aired on one evening.... the shows get uploaded to 4OD - which means that not only can everybody with a laptop access the back catalogue at their leisure whatever time of day... but every derp with an Xbox 360 gold account can do that as well. (and goodness knows what other devices can access 4OD too ... by now, probably every smartphone in existence !)

 It's like that....

Same guy yes.

It is an interesting series and several members were thrilled to hear that someone was uploading episodes to youtube earlier on this year(4od is only accesible to the uk/ through proxy that makes it look like you are in the uk) but I honestly dont see how they could find people like that who are also comfortable with being filmed and all that brings...

8O It's certainly not a good way to become famous... that's for sure !

For people in the UK or folk who can find it on Youtube, the guy who we're talking about is called Michael.
He was featured in season 2 (episode 1)

I have also just noticed another 'Undateables' episode featuring a guy with autism... but I haven't watched that yet.
He's in season 2 (episode 4)

The unfortunate thing about Aspergers is that by definition it tends to make it a lot more difficult to gauge how others will respond to various social behaviours... because it's difficult to understand how other people will feel about something.... to see it from their perspective, so to speak.

Even for people who haven't got AS, it often comes as a huge shock when a show featuring them is aired and they are exposed to the general public's reactions to it.... but by then the show is already made - and then there's no stopping it from going wherever it likes.

:-) And yes, I do indeed live in the UK.

My social skills are pretty appalling, it must be said. They're probably not quite as bad as his though.

Richard was frankly a horror show from minute one. I couldn't stop cringing at him - God, he was a nightmare to watch.

And you'll no doubt have people who live near you that recognise you and that might out you on the Internet. Digital Spy, for example, will doubtless have a feeding frenzy.
