Hi! Those of you who've seen me around know I'm an English major. I'm one of those nerds who obsesses over fictional characters, as a lot of us do.

I finally figured out that a novel I read for a class last year has messed with my love life. Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood is not anywhere close to a romance novel, but it takes the cake regardless.

What I'm attempting to admit here is that I hold guys I meet to a standard based on Glenn, a.k.a. Crake, from the novel because to me he seems to have desirable qualities. He's (likely) an Aspie and also an accomplished scientist, but I don't want to give anything away. The point is nobody I meet seems to be even a little bit close and I've been in a "dating drought" for quite some time. It's really pathetic.

For those of you who have read the novel, you probably think I'm a complete nutcase. I probably am.

Anyone else feel like they have really weird standards that don't match with reality? Anyone know how to fix it?

You need a compensating read to balance your perspective. I suggest "Hannibal".

After reading about Hannibal Lecter, your expectations will assuredly be pulled toward the center.
