The free ones were getting me nowhere so I joined gk2gk. I went for the promo offer, 3 month for 29.99. After that it goes up to almost $50 a month but if I don't get anywhere in 3 months I'll likely close the account.

Best of luck to you!

I'm too geographically isolated for gk2gk to work for me. I just did the free membership, and my closest "match" was over 1000 miles away. But there are definitely some interesting people on there - not all the vanilla pudding types you see on most of the other sites.

for me the paid sites were actually less successful - zero connections AND I spent money - I get more on free ones - and the paid ones were where I met people who tried to scam me for money.

Similar experience here, both parties had to pay to communicate on zoosk. So anyone you browse and message can't actually read your messages unless they're paying members too.

Gk2Gk? I thought they were dead. They're a rip off anyway. I only got one date out of it then the site sort of seemed to die. And I thought 60% off a lifetime membership would be a good deal. I've found one idea that kind of works is just buying a premium membership on a free site.

Well of the 20+ people I have either messaged or sent a wink to 1 has replied. Problem? He doesn't live in Georgia like his profile claims. The job he was going to move here for when he made the profile didn't pan out. I need a man here to spend time with, not yet another way to be lonely, so that won't work.

I never done the wink thing on there or any site. I figured the 1s I received were from people who just liked something in my profile & not really interested in chatting with me because they could send me a message if they want to chat. If other guys on there are like me it may work better to send a message & comment or ask a question about something in their profiles & mention how you related to whatever it is. I understand about wanting/needing someone you can be with in person My two ex girlfriends were long distance & it was very hard just chatting, emailing, texting & occasionally talking on the phone instead of being with them in person. My current girlfriend was across the country from me(we met on this site & I met my 2nd ex on here too) but I was willing to relocate for lots of reasons & we were both open to taking things kind of fast so I moved in with her after knowing her 7months. We've been living together over a year now & we're doing pretty good together. My point is long distance relationships can be very difficult but can work well if one is willing to relocate & both are OK with taking things fast like moving in together.

I (male) used Geek 2 Geek back in 2010. It was horrible!! ! Way worse than mainstream dating sites. I had a lot of crap like one-line replies ("yea, me to" [sic]) to a well-written paragraph, nonsense replies, correspondences that went nowhere, phone number given but never picks up, and last-minute date cancellations. That was true even with genuinely geeky girls. I began to wonder whether "mean girls" types join that site strictly to mess with geeky guys they despise. The only site worse than that was Match.com (all I described, plus paying $50 a month). Geek 2 Geek is still around, but last time I checked it, it looked like a shadow of its former self.

Maybe my investment paid off. Maybe. One of the guys I messaged messaged me back. Seems interesting and only 48 miles away, so just barely in my search radius. Actually he is in the same town as my mom and I had already been thinking of looking for a job back that way sooner or later.
