Fellow WP'ers,

With the many Q's I see about attracting a soul mate and the many disappointments I also see on this Board from those who try to play the dating game, I thought I'd bring up this idea. Is there a Singles' Dance held anywhere any time in your community?

Recently I became aware of such an event every second weekend in my area, and they cater to singles over 30. It took me some nerve and mustering up courage to go and check it out but I actually found everybody there to be quite friendly and the women outnumbered the men by a wide margin. Although alcohol is available there for those who want it, there wasn't much drinking going on and there weren't any attitudes such as what you'd encounter in a night club. I opt for non-alcoholic drinks there anyway.

Last night was my second visit to the dance club. So far I've gotten acquainted with many new lady-friends and had the good fortune of exchanging phone numbers with one. Only time will tell from hereon.

From what I see, attending the singles' dances seem to hold good promice in my dating endeavors. If you are already attending anything like that in your area, please share your successes. If you know about a singles' dance club but haven't been there yet, I'd encourage you to give it a chance.

They have a lot of them in Houston, but many of those cater to those over 30.

But I am only 27, and many of those dances are sponsored by churches, and I am a very socially and politically liberal person.

Tim Tex I've heard the same thing. Where I live I've heard of certain religious denominations hold singles meetings as a way to find new converts. Somebody at work warned me about them. Be careful who you give your contact info to or you may get harassed by the church repeatedly because you know they want to save your soul because they think only people in their denomination are loved by God and think they hold the keys to heaven. Some of those groups that try overly hard to convert seem more like they are trying to brainwash as in they don't believe in freedom of choice. Actually reminds me of an episode of X-Files I saw.

I guess just like anything else in life always be careful and look out for yourself first.

I'd have a better chance of meeting a guy, at a Bus Show in London, England.

I'm just being honest, otherwise, love is a joke.

There is a dance in the Union on wednesdays I think, I want to join it, there are several girls alone sitting down, I don't know just how I should do it.

Strangely enough, some of the conservative denominations (such as the Southern Baptists) forbid dancing. It reminds me of the movie Footloose.

That was all the more reason that my first visit to that dance club was to scope it out, get the feel of it, find out what it's all about, and not expect any bragging successes. That first time, I declined an invitation to join a group of them for "last call" at a bar at the end of the evening. With that club, I saw no indication of it being sanctioned by any church or any organization that is eager to lure unwary people into its trappings. Upon speaking with some of the regulars there, I did find out that many of them are members of a supportive group for the divorced and widowed.

Tim,

I wouldn't let your being "underage" be a deterrent to attending those dances. If you're that serious about finding a soul mate I'm sure one of those clubs would welcome you with open arms as a new member.

Also shop around and find out which dance clubs suits you best, and good luck!

I heard a tip from someone who rang into a talkback radio show about how to meet people.

Often women/girls are in groups. This guy said rather than ask one particular girl to dance, he would ask the group, "who would like to dance?" Invariably 1 says yes. At the end of that dance, go back to the group and ask who's next? etc.

(never done it myself).

While I do believe a God exists, I am a very secular person, and I would prefer a more secular setting.
