I've noticed one thing that dating sites have really helped me with - making a first impression and engaging in a normal conversation. I've always had difficulties with conversation, particularly with people that I don't know very well...I used to be extremely quiet, and in some ways still am From my experience with dating sites, I find that I'm now able to sit down with a complete stranger, and with relative ease have a 1-2 hr conversation with them and actually make a strong first impression. I actually find that I'm better than many of my peers in this regard now - I see them struggle for things to say in similar situations.

I mention this because I did this recently at work, and when I thought about it I realized that I really developed that ability by all my time spent using dating sites meeting new people. Anyways, I just thought I'd share, since dating sites usually aren't referenced in the same sentence as positive things!

I'm glad you've found an outlet.

Usually, for people with ASD's, writing things down conversationally is much easier than talking face-to-face.

I would think that this would give you the confidence to talk face-to-face with people with more ease.

In my case, I've always been great at communicating through writing, it's the face-to-face I have trouble with. It wasn't really the online communications that helped me, but the interactions after meeting in person. By meeting so many people who are, essentially, complete strangers, and having conversations with them, it has dramatically improved my conversational skills. As they say, practice makes perfect!

Yup, through meeting and talking with strangers, you've developed a general list of questions to keep the conversations going. With practice, conversing gets easier and becomes more natural.

Anyways, congrats on bettering yourself.

I've had the same effect with online conversation, not online dating though.
